    Currently stock; MODS coming soon.
Same cheap plastic they use on the Tacoma tach/display cover.

Picked up a 2020 3 weeks ago. Was none-the-wiser until reading this post. Mine was roughed up as well. Swirl scratches all over.

Took some Novus plastic polish and a sunglass cloth, buffed it. Scratches gone.

Then I put on the Jetech glass screen protector mentioned before.

We had an Audi that had a similar problem. Not a touch screen, but the display would still show scratches. Turns out it was the anti-glare coating that needed buffed out. With the 4Runners, not sure if it’s a coating, but either way the polish worked great in my case.

Not for the squeamish given these are brand new vehicles. If you decide to give it a try, proceed with caution and a light touch when buffing and don’t re-wipe with any other cloth or you’ll add more swirls that need further buffing. I basically buffed it out with my index finger.

I scratched mine 2020 4Runner Nightshade radio with my dry skin index finger as well.
I used a light light scratch removing compound and a Clean microfiber cloth and light hand buffing it removed the slide screen scratches.
Then I purchased the glass cover for $20 mentioned here from Amazon.. Problem solved.

Another person here that bought the screen protector as referenced in this thread. So far, it’s been amazing and you can’t really tell there’s a screen protector.

I also have a sienna and that screen is much more durable, meaning I don’t anticipate needing a screen protector for that vehicle. I get it’s a different size screen from our 4runners but also find it weird that it appears to be a different material between the two screens.

I've driven mine twice now and I have some scratches. I'm just gonna except it for what it is.

Appreciate everyone sharing their experience with the touchscreen. I own a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport and the touchscreen is an entirely different, and more durable material versus my 2020 4Runner. I opted to install a glass screen protector 2 days after taking delivery of the car and fortunately avoided getting any scratches. This screen protector fits well and has caused no functionality issues. It will be interesting to see how it fares with soaring summer heat and subfreezing temps. Available through Amazon - packaged well and IMG_1408.jpg IMG_1421.jpg IMG_1419.jpg very inexpensive.

Hey all, first post. I am picking up my 2021 TRD Pro tomorrow and I am not gonna lie, this is making me want to consider alternatives given the price of the unit ($4500... damn!). This is my dream truck though. I really hope mine looks okay.

I ordered the screen protector but I don’t know the long term affects of having it on the screen. Wish me luck? Hah

I've had mine on going almost year in February. Couple weeks back I pulled it off just to see and it came off fine but bonus...went right back on.
Hint for the install. Use a bright light behind you and most of all, clean the inside before hand then close doors and windows and move slowly so you don't kick up dust.
Also use low lint microfibre towels to wipe everything down 1st

That’s really good to hear. Was yours scratched prior to installation? Did the cover hide the scratches? I ordered the Wunderfullz (sp?) one and hope that’s a good brand/maybe what you had.

We heard about this problem a long time before we got our 2020, ordered the same one as above post......love it, worth it's weight for sure. The day we took delivery of our 4Runner, the wife and I sat in the truck and applied it before we left the parking lot. In the mean time the "electronics genius" at the dealership was UNSUCESSFULLY trying to figure out how to install Alexa, When he couldn't get it he said "ahh Alexa is obsolete anyway." Wife and went home and installed Alexa. Try the screen protector, you'll like it! BTW ours was not scratched before install.

When I shopped for the runner I got now I found a dealer that had 6 gray orp's equipped about the same. One you get better negotiation because they have 6 of the same thing to offload and two, I sat in each one till I found a scratch free screen and bought it based on they do not prep or touch the damn thing.

For cleaning I use microfiber and a product called Plexis, the aviation guys, and motorcycle guys use it. It’s expensive but it’s fantastic on plexiglass, screens, instrument panels, plastics, paint. Good stuff I highly recommend

Nice thing about the screen protector is that even if there are scratches on the screen already that you are not able to get rid of once you put the protector on you cant see ANY of the scratches

Yeah that’s nice you got to choose! In my case it I ordered the Pro and it’s the got a preassigned VIN for my order sheet and all that. Asked them not to wash/prep but we will see..Whatever happens happens :) I’ll report back and if I apply my screen protector nice I’ll show some pics.

I have a new 2021 4runner and 6 months in the head unit screen is scratched. The dealer service manager contacted the Toyota and has denied the warranty claim as surface scratches and claimed it is not factory defect. I have a call into Toyota Canada to discuss further but I will probably attempt arbitration with consumer protection if it doesn't go anywhere. This head unit is junk. How can be worth 4-7k?

Its 100% factory defect. Just save yourself the headache and get the screen protector. Its more responsive and just feels/looks better.

I honestly didn’t look or noticed, have 250 miles on my 22 that I picked up end of December and barely drove and just noticed a nice spot of scratches. As said, barley spent time in the vehicle. Sucks.

Get the screen protector off Amazon, I put mine on the first week owning the truck. Honestly I forgot I had it on there until I read this.

That’s what seems to be the thing to do, if it ever has to come off would it be able to cleanly do you know?

It went on just like a phone screen protector, that being said, those can be super hard to remove some times. I think it would probably just peel right up.

Before we drove off the lot, my wife and I put the protector on, that's a yr. and a half ago, it has done it's job! No scratches, and to clean it we leave the power off, a spritz of window cleaner, rub clean with T P.

For those of you that got scratches do you think it’s from a woman’s fingernails? I have not had issues with mine knock on wood but as a single guy and having short nails I could not help but wonder if this due to someones longer fingernails such as women having longer nails and the screen being too soft?

One of the most common and Worst things people use to "clean" the screens that will scratch the crap out of things from monitors to car screens is Paper towels they are very abrasive.

I added it to my 2020 4runner Pro soon as I got it. No longer have the 4runner. So I added one to my 21 tundra Pro.
