Not my first 4Runner, but the first I’m looking to build up.
Just purchased a 2012 SR5 and I’m having a hell of a time finding simple upgrades that fit. Most specify ‘14 and up. Is this something set in stone, or more of a general guideline. Just an example being the 2020 TRD PRO wheels say they aren’t compatible, but they are. Same bolt pattern. I realize the grille is different, so that makes sense, but how many other components differ to the point that they won’t work? Sorry in advance if this is an annoying first post!

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm pretty sure most mechanical parts should be the same from 2010 up.

What upgrades are you looking at?

Well, really I was looking at mostly cosmetic things like badges, and trim pieces...just getting rid of the chrome. But even a lot of aftermarket companies that make lights, bumpers and most bolt on stuff seem to lean more toward specifying '14 and up.

i agree with you. when i started for my 4runner search, i opted for the 2014 and newer as there's not many manufacturers making mods for the pre '14. but the items like bumper, rockers, headlights can be easily updated to '14 standards.
