Will 16” wheels fit on a 2020 TRD ORP? I’ve always been a fan of the more tire and less wheel look.

    TIA

No, won't clear the rotors. 17" as small as you can go.

Thanks, that’s what I was afraid of. Would you know what offset and back space works best in most applications? I have 0 and 4.5 on my Tacoma that works well. The wife’s new T4R is all new to me.

Don't take this as gospel, but I believe the stock wheels range anywhere from +4 to +15 on offset and all of them are 4.5" on backspacing.

If you start deviating from this too far, you'll rub. Most people start rubbing on their body mounts. The fix is a body mount chop, which plenty of people do without issue. Sounds scarier then it actually is.

    For the US Domestic market (2013-2021) 4.0 VVT-i 1GR-FE,
The stock TRD ORP wheels are 17x7.5 ET+15 with 265/70-R17 tires.
The stock TRD Pro wheels are 17x7 ET+4 with 265/70-R17 tires.
The stock Limited wheels are 20x7 ET+15 with 245/60-R20 tires.

If you vary too far from those specs you may, but not necessarily, run into fitment issues.
See for some ideas, however, this chart fails in completeness because it omits wheels specs (width, offset, backspace), simply saying to use the OEM wheel specs.

No idea, I don't run aftermarket wheels so I've never delved into that. Others on here will absolutely know.

He's right they won't clear the rotors. I've read it can be done, but it's quite the chore as you'd have to swap out your entire brake setup what the Tacoma uses to get them to work.

That I don’t want to do from a safety standpoint. Especially since the 4R is 700+ lbs. heavier than a Tacoma.

Thanks for that link! I would like to put 275/70/17’s on her rig soon with a leveling kit eventually. I don’t get why you buy a off-road package and they put road tires on it rather than a AT tire?

In my personal experience, 17x8 with 4.5" backspacing and 0 offset is the best option. Smallest chance of rubbing the body mount with a wheel of that spec.

cool, that’s what I have found works in my Tacoma with just a slight rub on the small front mud flaps. Removed them and all is good.

Hmm, on an 8" wide wheel, the backspace is 4" with a 0 offset (1/2 of 8 is 4). To get a 4 1/2" backspace, your offset needs to be +12mm (1/2").
    Please explain.

I run the FN wheels FX Pro They are 17x8 with 4.5" back spacing and 0 offset. I fit a 295/70/17 at 1.5" lift ON ROAD ONLY with zero rubbing. I am no math expect, I don't claim to be, I just know what works! Pictured is 1.5" front, 1.5" rear, wheels and tires as I said.

I see on the FN Wheels website they claim a 4 1/2" backspace with 0mm offset on the 8" wide FX Pro wheels. That's a physical impossibility. See for yourself at Without actually measuring the physical wheel, who really can say what the specs of your wheel actually are. I'm not faulting you for what you say you are running because the mfr publishes mis-spec'd wheels.

There are quite a few wheels advertised as 17x8 with 4.5" backspacing and 0 offset from many big name manufacturers. Are they all wrong or being deceitful? Not saying your wrong, I'm not a wheel pro, but I just find it hard to believe is all.

After some additional research on the relation to backspace and offset I found the following:

Definition 1 is that "Backspace = The distance from back of the wheel to the wheel's mounting space, in inches."
Definition 2 is that "Backspace = The distance from the inside edge of a wheel to the mounting face."
But then Definition 2 deviates from that by saying "A wheel’s backspace is equal to ½ the wheel’s width + offset (in inches) + ½”"

The backspace = definition of both 1 and 2 may be identical but definition 2 then says it calculates it differently than it defines backspace by adding 1/2". These two are mutually exclusive and I have no idea why this is.

That seems like a big variance between ORP and Pro, xyzzy, I’m not saying you’re wrong! Same size tires. So what does that mean in everyday terms, the Pro is slightly wider?

Yes, the Pro stance is wider with the narrower wheels pushed out further (less offset).
From the Toyota part number of the Pro wheel:
    Code:
Description: 17" Toyota TRD Wheel Matte Black 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Tacoma - PTR20-35110-BK Off-road race-inspired 17-in. x 7-in. cast aluminum wheel with 6 lug nut pattern 11-mm. with 4-mm. wheel offset widens the overall vehicle track width by 0.9-in. (22-mm.) for more aggressive stance.

I'm with you on preferring more tire and air under you rather than wheel. Seeing 4x trucks sold with 19" or 20" low profile tires seems crazy. I run daily on mostly very rough roads, old pavement with big potholes or unpaved dirt with a covering of sharp chunks of lava rock or mud, and I want to soften it up as much as possible. I can handle the switch to 17's on my new 4Runner, though I never had any complaint about the 16's on my Tacoma.

Yes, the OEM tires are pathetic for any kind of tough use. My '17 Tacoma came with Goodyear Adventure Kevlars. I had 3 nail intrusions and a busted carcass with a big hole from road debris in the first 8k miles. For my use, E range BFG KO2's hold up really well. Been through 5 sets of them on 3 trucks.
