:drunk::sadviolin: Sorry man..... on the bright side, you get a fresh shiny new pump with no time/miles on it. If your dealer is anything like ours, they will loan you a "similar" vehicle.... in our case, a Camry :frustrated:

This thread is quite entertaining. A fuel pump recall is not a big deal, realistically your car will never have a symptom and then you go get a new pump and everything runs and drives symptom free exactly how it did before. There is no drastic change in the vehicles that they require a recall, recalls like this are because the supplier who actually builds the fuel pump has a production run of
X amount of pumps that had some abnormality that could potentially lead to an early failure, because stalling out is considered a safety concern they just proactively replace all the pumps that were built during the time frame in question.

As for evap noises... it became a federally required emission system across the board with the mandatory implementation of OBD-II back in 1996. Every single passenger vehicle built since 1996 has the evap self test

Fuel has vapors, the vapor is full of unburned hydrocarbons, thats bad for the environment. The vehicle is required to store and burn the vapors from the fuel it stores on board in its own fuel tank, none is allow to leak out. You can’t just seal a fuel tank because if it was air tight you’d get vapor lock and pressure built up from temperate and elevation changes resulting in pressure changes. You can’t open the fuel filler cap and have it shower you with pressurized fuel. In the old days an airpump would push clean outside air into the tank pushing the vapors through a charcoal canister where they would be stored while the engine was running at idle an evap purge valve would open and close at a fast rate allowing engine vacuum to pull the fuel vapor out of the canister and get pulled into the intake where the engine would burn it. Because it did it at warm idle customers complained all the time about a loud ticking noise (the solenoid valve under the hood click on on and off). Then they moved to it doing it during light loads while driving so the noise wasn’t as obvious. Because it needs to be a sealed system the system is constantly self testing, this system is the reason you get a check engine light of you don’t have your gas cap tightened, because a loose/missing cap is is a leak in the system. The 5th gen will kick on the pump to slightly pressurize the tank when it’s off and cold then monitor the pressure to ensure there is no leak, that’s the pump your hearing. A lot of the newer and or high end stuff just monitors the temperature and pressure and compares them so there’s no pump making noise required in order to self test.

I figure the only issue I'll have with the recall is the minor inconvenience of visiting a dealer to get it addressed.

On my 17 Pro I heard a release vapor noise. It’s in the owners manual you may here this noise. I heard inside my garage on my17 Pro and it’s in the 2020 manual I think I read there to.

I don't think anyone is really freaking out about it.

It is concerning to me because I'm about to drive about 5,000 miles over the course of 2 weeks and I will potentially be in remote areas and driving at night.

I'm 90% confident that I won't have any issues. But, if I did, it could be pretty inconvenient. And, potentially dangerous if it were to crap out in the middle of nowhere at night.

I also have high mileage for a 2019, so my fuel pump (potentially) has more wear on it than most. I don't know if this issue is hit or miss, or just a matter of time before it conks out.

So, maybe I'm being a little paranoid. But, it's not without reason.

They are all made in Japan. Canadian version shouldn't matter. I would call your dealer & get a confirmation. The website is for US only I believe.

This recall will be like the airbags many effected but perhaps 98% will never be effected, HOWEVER you never know. I finally brought in my Honda after like two years of receiving notices it was not done yet. Hey if the airbag went off it would hit a passenger anyway. :D

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
I'm on the list. Have made multiple 2000+ mile road trips with my 4Runner since buying it in June of 2019.
No issues what so ever. I wouldn't worry about this. I'd have no problem taking it on a 5k mile road trip tomorrow.

I like seeing that Toyota will take care of it.

I got screwed twice by Nissan on my Frontier with Cross Contamination ($4k fix) of the radiator and transmission and timing chain tensioners ($1500 fix). Both were factory defects. I had to pay for both out of pocket.

What I find interesting is that if I go and type in my VIN no recall but if I look at the recall notice it says it is by production dates....

They may have had orlder "manufacturing dates" for the pumps that are close to the cut off date. I assume they are made in batch #'s. They are just now finding more "batches" that are failing.
I would wait till they find the problem and just replace it. Especially if you spend a lot of time out of the concrete jungle!
We are set for a recall & they said something about March initially. I will have to look into that.
What a mess. Every few yrs Toyota just loses. Airbags, floor mats... & I don't even follow them closely.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
When I originally checked my VIN a month or so ago mine was on the list. I checked again today and it's not on the list now. I'm glad but I'm wondering why?

That is odd. When did you buy & what is mfg date? We need a way to chart this. Toyota doesn't care! I wish I could use computers. I do most everything on here via phone. Lol

We got ours in March of '19. Unsure of Mfg date also. I was on the list last I checked. I will have to check again. Either way I will replace the pump with the "new version" or whatever fix they have.
Will advise tomorrow. Not looking for vin tonight.

I guess not. It made it to Florida and back OK. 30K miles now, and no issues yet. Hopefully they can figure out the remedy soon, before I get stranded in the middle of nowhereo_O
