Anyone tried removing the 2 chrome bars on the upper grill?

    Circled in the picture. Out of curiosity, has anyone tried removing the 2 chrome bars on the upper grill or tried blacking it out?

    I saw a youtube guy who had removed it - apparently it's held by 2 screws from behind each bar and you don't have to remove the grill to remove the bars.

    Can confirm - the plastic bars can be removed if you take off the upper grill and unscrew the two screws (each) holding them in. I actually replaced my 2020 front with the Pro style grille.

    I will get back to you on that. My plan was to try and heat it up to see if I can turn the chrome into black chrome then reinstall. Or maybe even spray them gloss black.

    Hey @Jemplyr77, DM me as i have the full upper (with the chrome pieces and Toyota logo) available - just not sure if it can be installed in a pre-2020. I would think so, but don't quote me on it.

    Well, I got a little excited and thought there is a chance to get ride of the chrome easy. Never took a closer look to the upper grill before, today I did and there is no chance...
    Maybe the Chrom at self will come off but that’s it, I’m sure the pieces need to go back otherwise it will look even worse then with the chrome but for black them out I’ll do plasti dip since that will be a temporarily fix anyway.
    The ‘20 upper grill is as far as I know a little different then before, it should be possible to mount this grill on a ‘19 but it won’t be plug n play but the grill is even uglier then my mother in law, so not worth the effort!
    Damn I guess I have to spend the money and get the heritage grill, I hate to spend money on things that do nothing else then just look better!

    I hear you @Matze, but i will say it looks a LOT better with the heritage grille. So far one of the only "mods" i have done to my 2020, but could not be happier with how it came out.

    It just sucks that toyota is well aware of that so they put a big price tag on it.

    That's at the dealer. So its not that bad because the employees or salesman only move the cars if needed.

    No was able to take them off while the grill was installed. One screw per bar and then 2 clips ber bar. Not bad at all to remove

    It’s just two screws (Phillips head) per chrome strip and there’s a clip in the middle for each in which you push down on the clip piece in order to move the chrome piece off it. Just pulls right off. No pics, but it’s super easy.
