This is the apex 4-bike platform for $240-. I think it's solid, but it's my 1st bike rack and others may disagree.

Yeah that does stick out far! A guy sent me a link of an 18 inch extender, so I think that would do the trick, I just need to find a nice solid hitch rack to attach to it. Craigslist here I come!

by a new one if you want something solid that won't rattle. not that you can't find a good deal on Craigslist, but a lot of times, someone is selling it for a reason.

try google image for "Yakima Boa". it is just the head for attaching the bike fork.
If...big if...the gobi ladder rung is the same size as a yakima round bar you could mount your bike vertical on the ladder. would look killer and not stick out any further than these monster hitch rigs.
Those ladders are good for several hundred pounds right? my Yakima roof rack is only good for like 160 pounds and it is specifically made for bikes.

if there's a HarborFreight in the area, I'd check there for trailer accessories.

I forgot to mention that half of the apex bike rack detaches, going from a 4 to a 2-bike rack.

I weigh about 240 and I climb that ladder all the time so it should hold that...that would look awesome too haha! I just put my high lift jack on the Gobi on the roof, I am running it front to back, so originally I didn't think I could get a crossbar across with it but it looks high enough where I could slide one under it if I went the roof route. There is a custom rack place here called Rack Attack I might see what they say maybe I can steal an idea from them! I saved money on the high lift mount because the package I bought came with a little cheap mount but I rigged it up, bolted it down in between the mesh of the Gobi, sturdy as hell and not a rattle to it :amen:

Only draw back for any fork mount is what to do with front wheel. Good luck though !

My stumpjumper doesn't have the stab in fork or whatever it's called, but I'm sure there is an adapter for it to be fork mount compatible.

Do you mean the quick release? You probably have a 15mm type "semi" quick release, yes? The type you flip open and then have to unscrew the lever so the whole axle comes out before you can remove the wheel.

And yes, there are most definitely adapters that will "convert" a regular quick release fork mount to hold your 15mm. Better yet, you can get a fork mount specific for that fork type:

Nice! That's much cheaper than buying a Yakima, just need a lock for it!

Yeah, if you can get it mounted securely to your roof rack, or where ever is best for you, it's WAY cheaper than a Yakima!

As for a lock, though, that's a tough one since you need to use your bike's q/r lever/axle to attach to the rack, which obviously doesn't lock.

The only one I've seen that "locks" is in that link I sent, the RockyMounts Drive Shaft. But it's an adapter, not a direct mount... It might work for you, though since you can get locking conventional q/r mounts.

Really, even the locks on Yakima/Thule racks/mounts can be pried open with a screwdriver, and cables lock are *extremely* easy to cut through, so those are really only a minor deterrence to thieves. A facebook friend just had $4000+ worth of bikes stolen off his hitch rack. He had a top end Thule rack locked AND a cable lock through the wheels/frames. So whatever you do, don't leave it for ANY reason overnight or unattended somewhere...

I just got the new Thule hitch rack and you get what you pay for. This is solid. I looked at all the others before buying, also. Sturdy, lockable and stable on the back. Where are you in CO? I'd let you try it out if you are near Golden.

And ya I don't rely on the locks, even when I add an extra cable lock. It's a dereterant - just slows them down.

Yeah I would never do that, I always try to keep in view as I like to hit a taproom/brewery for a beer or two after a nice 15 or 20 mile ride. But you know might have to pick up the kids from school and run in real quick things like that. Heck that roof is so tall with my tires and lift that's a deterrent right there. It would look pretty suspicious somebody climbing on the roof frantically trying to get something down. Thieves are crazy though they don't care. Most people would have to climb up the ladder and be on the roof rack to get anything from up there unless they have a 6 foot wingspan like I do to just to reach the roof haha! I was just thinking though that front piece wouldn't do me any good without a back piece to lock the rear tire in with, you know of any parts for that or am I doomed to buy an entire rack? Rocky Mounts makes a pretty cheap one for $150, the high end sturdy one is $219, both have no front tire dismount required.

I came to this site looking for rumors/information on the 2018 4Runner. I can across this forum and thought I would give my 2 cents. I have a 1999 with 200k and hopefully looking forward to a new 2018. I currently have a cheap bike rack that is nothing but a pain. I'm getting ready to buy this one: https://www.1upusa.com/product-quikracksilver.html
I see a ton of these out in the MTB community and my brother has one as well. They are made in the USA and are built very well.

Anybody know of a good 200+lb rack that isn’t back ordered? Just picked up a new DH bike, 65lbs:eek: (previous owner stated, but not sure if true) so I need a 200lb capacity rack unless I can find one that has a 150lb capacity. I’ll be carrying to bikes.

Kuat NV 2.0. I have it set up for 2 bikes now but will add the extension this weekend so I can carry 4. Also has a built in lock (not perfect, but better than nothing) and when you tilt it up, there is a built in bikestand. Screen Shot 2021-05-05 at 8.39.29 AM.jpg
