Well maybe I am kidding myself but I am hoping with enough miles on the ebike I will be able to ride analog again with no issues. But the screws and plates holding my skeleton together are never going away no matter how strong I get or how much weight I lose. Plus I already know a mechanical knee is in my future if I am lucky enough to live long enough. :)

    Better living through modern technology.

I use Yakima products for most racks, but switched to a Kuat NV for my hitch mount. I like the built in cable lock and the ability to switch from 2 bikes to 4. As mentioned by others, I don't have the same space requirements, so I'm only speaking in terms of loving the rack. and my bike. and my 4Runner.

My uncles setup when we go biking. I use my Tacoma when I go mountain biking so I don’t have any racks on my 4Runner.

This is my 7 yr old Kuat (well, half of it). I'll have to update the pic but imagine it on the back of a Blizzard White Limited.

It ain't for everyone but I just use a (EDIT) Thule fork mount (not a Yakima Blockhead as I erroneously posted) U-bolted to the front bar of my Yak basket. (EDIT - the difference is that the Thule has 4 bolt holes already set up to accept a U bolt). A pair of elastic snowboard straps snugs down the rear wheel. Pretty easy to load / unload by opening the back door and standing on the door sill and / or back tire. This is my preferred method of transport since it leaves the back hatch accessible.

Pic from a 9,000 mile trip to AK during which both bikes were rock solid. Only downside I could come up with is you get a ton of dirt on the bike forks over that many miles but it wouldn't be an issue for shorter trips.

Probably wouldn't work well with an e-bike, I assume they are a lot heavier (?) so that'd be pretty unwieldy loading on the roof I imagine.

if I don't feel like messing with my rack, or just carrying one bike, I just fold down the back seat and put my mountain bike in the rear hatch. as long as the derailleur is facing up, shouldn't be any damage to the bike. Only had my 4Runner a couple months but I used this method in my Blazer for years with no damage to the truck.

I think the heaviest part is of course the battery which pops right out. Some folks even remove it to load their bike onto a bumper mounted rack. Mine is not too bad but I would for sure pull the battery if I were trying to mount it on my roof.

Haha! Heyo, @doublewide! Didn’t expect to see you here.

Just joined because I’m looking at some suspension upgrades for my 2011 that needs some new struts.

OK so this has me stumped?

When I carry a bike on my 1up, I am careful to get it centered on the rack. But no matter how closely I watch it, it always seems that when I look out the driver side mirror, I see more tire/wheel sticking out than I do when I look out the passenger side mirror.

    Is this an optical illusion?

^ Little more effort to load and unload but it is nice that the bike is inside the vehicle and at least in theory, more secure.

That was one of my main deciding factors in the 4Runner. Years ago someone attempted to steal my bikes locked on a rack in Klamath Falls and since then always stow them inside if possible.

On my 1up rack, made a little webbing mod-toACF8E9BE-058A-4779-8FF0-496A2FD83E90.jpg make it a touch more user friendly, and now with their thru axle lock plus a u lock, feels plenty secure for leaving the rack itself on (note just the rack not the bikes)

I guess I'm just paranoid and over protective. I now have two locks on my 1UP with came with a locking hitch pin. In addition to the locking hitch pin, I use a combination cable lock to secure the rack to one of the chain rings on the factory hitch. Then, when I am carrying my bike on the rack, I use a second combination cable lock to lock the bike to the rack so that some turd can't grab it while I am stopped in traffic. I have not left my bike on the rack unattended and have no intention of ever doing so.

Besides, this has all turned out to be kind of a waste for me. Over the past month(s) I have ridden enough that I have gotten fitter and I no longer drive my Runner to the trail. I ride directly from my house. So that's good.

I use the SARIS MTR,it is like the 1Up with out looking like an erector set. Plus I can fold up on the ends to make it a little neater for storing and backing up if you leave it on.
