Hey all, I hate that this is my first post but I am looking for some assistance on an issue I have found. I bought my 2020 Venture brand new and the day I bought it I noticed it was damp under the trunk mat (Toyota all weather mats) but didn't think anything of it, thought it was a by product of them cleaning it.

Fast forward 3 weeks and 2000 miles later from when I purchased the truck I was cleaning it yesterday and found dampness under my driver side floor mat and cannot seem to find the source. I did notice the grommet in the firewall was all wrinkled and was not seated so that has been fixed and I am hoping that fixes that issue. This prompted me to check under all of the floors mats and when I removed the rear trunk mat, same dampness under the mat. I cannot find a source of water coming from anywhere in the car, no water marks, nothing. Whatever is going on seems to be coming from under the body. I wiped down the carpet with a towel and cannot feel anymore dampness. I am going to take it to the dealer but I know these issues can be next to impossible to diagnose, I am beyond frustrated my brand new vehicle is already getting water inside of it. I do not have a sunroof. Any suggestions?

Note: You can see what looks like screw driver marks where the grommet is, that was like that when I found it all wrinkled and unseated.

Bust out the water hose and sit inside.

    If dealer can't find it.

Try some damp rid too to make sure you get all the excess out. It works wonders.

Our seal isn't seated properly either (very top).

However, this doesn't explain the water on the rear deck. The only 2 options would be the tailgate (no idea how) or the holes in the roof for the rails (90% sure that is your cause). Do you have any watermarks on headliner or any pillars?

No water marks anywhere, especially on the pillars or roof. It may be a long shot but I am wondering if that rear mat got wet when they were initially washing the car after I bought it and the moisture being trapped under there since hasn't had a chance to dry. My grommet looked similar but worse, probably 60% of it was wrinkled and not properly seated. Thanks for sharing.

I wouldn’t waste my time with that, it’s a brand new vehicle, let the dealer figure it out but the mean reason is you wanna have that in the records in case that end up as a never ending story!

I agree with you but trying to avoid being out of a car for a few days and them creating another problem trying to fix this one. It's my last resort.

You can always put some silicone around that wrinkled boot to ensure it won't leak. Do you have a sunroof? Check the drain channels for debris. Also ensure you don't have debris in the front cowl.

As far as the back goes make sure your rear window is all the way up and seated. But I agree with you I am thinking maybe it got wet and has not had a chance to dry.

Could it be leaking from a bad seal on the weather stripping on the drivers side door?

like one poster suggested, try sitting in the drivers seat while the door is completely shut and have someone run water from a garden hose over the roof and door seal area and watch for leaks. Or run it through a touch less car wash.

    +1

I washed the car today with the floor mats out and wet it pretty good multiple times, could not re-create the leak. Supposed to rain here Thursday so we will see how that goes!

Still saying put a tub of damp rid inside.

It will suck up any moisture and get it dry for sure.

You gotta get it dried out to prevent mold, as I’m sure you’re aware. Mold can happen in the blink of an eye and then your problem goes from bad to horrible.

I wonder if that was condensation on the rear cargo mat and not from the actual leak itself? Just something to consider anywhere you find dampness.

Definitely could be condensation because once I wiped the carpet down back there it wasn't damp at all, seemed like surface condensation built up between the mat and the carpet. I checked under the driver's floor mat this morning and it felt a tinge damp, removed it and put the damp rid back in there. Supposed to rain next 2 days, if it remains damp or doesn't dry up I will take it to the dealer. Thanks for all the suggestions!

We've been having insane temperature and humidity swings here in Georgia. Christmas day it was in the 70s and super humid /wet.

Yeah you’re gonna want to watch that. With dampness, you could get mold in a day at those temps, as the temp would be much higher in the truck.

Just an update, it rained all day the past few days and I did plenty of driving in it. Day 1 I removed the mat and just rode around with a towel, the carpet felt dry to the touch all day Thursday and no smells or anything. Day 2 yesterday I decided to put the all weather mat back in and it rained all day yesterday, I checked this morning and the floor feels slightly damp (but no water on back of the mat this time) and it is starting to smell like mildew/mold. I removed the mat and placed a tub of damp rid in there on the floor board. At this point I am not sure if I do have a leak and it is still coming in or if the fact that the floor mat doesn't breathe it is trapping moisture under the mat and is not allowing adequate time for this to dry from the first incident. For the people with the Toyota all weather mats, have you ever checked under them to see if they trap moisture?

I haven't noticed my all weather mats trapping moisture, but with the crazy temperature swings and humidity you've been dealing with, I can see it happening. That might be your issue and you just might have to wait out the weather to see if the moisture clears up after it normalizes.

Taking it to dealer Tuesday morning, will post any updates then! They said they were going to do a water test on it.

You might want them (dealer) to pull the front seats and check under the carpet. The insulation can hold A LOT of water. Having a moisture issue in my 2013 and got everything dry above the carpet, but still had moisture. Decided to take the seats out and molding and check under the carpet AND...Tons of water. Two days of air drying and using a space heater to get all of it dry. Caught it in time before mildew smell set in.

Dropped it off this morning, they couldn't feel where I claimed water had been. Told them if they stick a shop vac to it it will draw water through the carpet which indicates it is saturated beneath. They gave me a loaner and are pulling the seats/carpet. Will update when I get one.
