Thought we needed a roof top tent thread since many of us have one. Hope one doesn't already exist. Post up how you improved it or post pics when you use your RTT.

Found this solution that won't be for everyone but it is pretty slick and I may have gone this way if I had known about it. Completely frees up the roof for storage and eliminates a giant brick on your roof. It's pricey but about the price of a full roof rack and you can leave the tent off the vehicle at any time. Pretty cool.

Pretty cool. My thought is, if you're gonna go that route, mind as well get a ground tent and save money and weight...

True. But it will still save time over a ground tent and you don't have to disconnect it from the vehicle, but have the option to. It's like having a portable RTT. It is definitely not perfect but it does have some benefits over the normal way RTT's are mounted. I think it's pretty cool but still not sure I would go that way because I carry a dirt bike with me on a hitch carrier a lot. Not sure how I could do that with this.
