I am the second owner of a 1985 Toyota 4 Runner DLX 22REC...I just filled up and the mileage is 312,786...I am on the second engine...the previous owner installed at 217,000...so I am thinking my engine is new at this stage. So...my question is to all of you with your 1985 Toyota 4 Runners...is this normal to have 300,000 miles on your original transmission, transfer case and differentials??? Any thoughts are welcome...

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I've got an '87 pickup, longbed, 22R, 325,000 mi. or so. My trans, drive shaft, and diff is factory original. I have changed out the U Joints a few times on it. I change the oil in them at 30,000. I've owned it since 88, and it had 30,000 on it when I bought it. At every 100,000 miles, I stopped where I was, got out, and did the happy Toyota dance. Had a few cops scratching their heads when they saw me, too :p
It was my DD, 100 miles each way...

Then, in 89, I got an 87 4Runner. 175,000 mi, 22RE, factory trans, differentials, transfer case, and drive shaft. I change their oil at 30 k too, and lube the U Joints, and chassis twice a year. They're still original, the u joints. I drive it in the winter, and the PU in the summer, now that I moved out of Arizona to Oregon, in '06. The blower in the PU has failed. It's the resistor, I just have to take the time to replace, but, no blower, no heat. 4Runner still functions perfectly, so it has heat :)

    So, to answer your question,
YES, apparently, if you take the normal care of them, it IS normal :muscleflexing:

    Does this help?

It's very normal to have that kind of mileage for these trucks. I had ~300K on my 85 Hi-Lux when I sold it. All original drivetrain including the engine. I don't think you can ever wear out an all gear Toyota transfer case if it's maintained. I still see it every now and then. Still going strong. IMG_2495.jpgMy 88 4Runner has ~235K on it's all original drivetrain. Still runs strong. Doesn't even leak a drop of oil. Always amazes me. And I don't baby this one either. I wheel the piss out of it. IMG_0941.jpgIMG_2297.jpg IMG_2442.PNG.jpg
