Have any of you broken a front axle on a 5th Gen?

If so under what conditions and where on the axle did it break (Shaft? /Joint? Which side?)?

    Thanks

In my years of reading the forums, talking to other owners, and personal experience, I've never heard of one breaking.

    Thinking of upgrading?

Seen a few break on Tacomas, both first and second gen, not so much on the 4Runner. Most seem to not beat up on the late model 4Runner as much as the Tacoma people do.

    Not now.

Still might look for some beefier tie rods and ends. I prefer to be over built and have zero problems.

Don’t do it, you want the tie rods to be the weak link, you’d rather replace those than the steering rack which becomes the next failure point. Tie rods are cheap and easy, consider them a mechanical fuse to keep you a check.

    Good point.

If I did it I would get a beefier rack as well but the smart move would be to just pick up and carry a couple of spare tie rods when wheeling.
