    Hi
I have a 2.8 diesel which im guessing is pretty rare in the US but quite common in Africa and Australia. Fantastic engine. So incredibly simple and very reliable. But under powered, but I can live with that.

I noticed though that the previous owner bipassed the standard in line filter which is mounted on the firewall on the left side (opposite to the drivers side) and simply connected a 2 dollar tiny in line filter instead.

But what do i do if i run out of diesel? On the original filter, there is a button at the top of the huge cylinder which allows you to pump through the fuel from the tank.

Mine looks ok but it it showing some electrical terminals at the base, rather like the cover is off.

Anyone have any experience with these? Ideally, i would like to use it, if it's only a matter of finding the original part (im guessing that the PO couldn't find a new filter for it inside).

All advice, experience shared would be welcome

    thanks

    MJ

You are correct diesel Toyotas are NOT found over here in the US. One in a million might be found, if any. So due to this fact alone, you are likely not going to get any responses from anyone in the US, unfortunately.

I would try to find a correct filter for it (look at Toyota) and figure out why it was
bypassed. That hand pump filter housing is a common diesel thing. If you can't find an original Toyota part, maybe you can adapt a different brand one to work? Good luck.

    hi
i took your advice and came to the conclusion that the PO simply could't be bothered to replaced a dirty filter but prferred to stick in a very cheap, in line generic model instead. I found an aftermarket one and fitted it quite easily. All seems to work fine.
thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated.
