    Greetings,

Im new to 4runners and off roading. The tire reviews I've read are all over the place, and most are associated with on-line tire sales, which leaves me to believe, the best reviews are directed toward the tires which is has the dealer's best profit margin. For example Tirerack reviews, has General Tires rated high??? I've bought vehicles equipped with generals, I've never had good experience with general or uniroyal.

Are there any good reliable tire reviews for all terrain tires?

I have had Grabber a/t tires in the past, and was very happy with the wear, performance. I think the Falken a/tw3 is getting good reviews by folks on this site. I run the Falken M/Ts on mine and am very happy with them.

You'll hear mixed reviews on any tire.

How will you be using the truck?

AT tires vary greatly. Some are very aggressive, while others are not much different than all seasons.

I have BFG KO2's and am completely satisfied with them. That said, if I didn't off road I definitely would not buy them again. There are other tires that are better in rain and snow, etc.

Are you looking at any particular tires?

    Thatbassguy,

I’m not sure exactly what I’m looking for yet. That’s why I’m checking reviews. I will be going off road some. I will be off road in the Rocky Mountains, on roads rated 3 or lower, but the majority of the miles will be on paved roads. The general grabber reviews on tire rack, is rated how I’d like a tire to be, I’m just having a hard time believing there is a good general tire. I use to average 100k miles per year in GM pickups, mostly highway miles, for 30+ years before I retired, so I’ve been through a lot of tires. I went through many sets of the ill fated firestone Wildermess A/T’s, until bone headed vehicle operators, scum sucking lawyers, and our out of control government screwed everything up. Now a firestone destination is like the tires Fred Flinstone used.

I always had good luck with Goodrich, so I’ll probably try a set of the K02’s.

    Thanks for the reply.

For mixed/mostly on road driving, the Falken Wildpeak AT3W's are extremely popular right now as well.

Agreed on the AT3W's...love mine so far. We just got a foot of snow and they worked well. Lots of traction, and they cleared themselves quickly too. I like the Cooper ST MAXX too - had them on my FJ and they were really good. Neither were noisy like a mudder can be. I had two sets of KM2's on my FJ, and didn't like them. They looked great, but cupped wicked bad after 30K miles or so.

I second the cooper ST MAXX. Have them on my third gen and love them.
