Tonight @ 5,500 miles our dash began squeaking. You cannot hear it with the radio on or while at a stop. As soon as you accelerate there is a sound coming from the drivers front windshield that is constant. It was 50° when we were out. I really don't want to see the stealership for this...
Can anyone here pull or tell me where to find TSB's on our vehicles?
I am insanely angry. This much money to start falling apart in 7 months.
I thought this was why one would buy a T4R. Because they are reliable and bulletproof. Did I miss a part about being squeak boxes or is this a problem?
Sorry for the rant. At this milage and not even a dirt road... I am furious.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

Ouch, my 2000 4runner did this at only a few months old. I was scaring the kid because by the time I got home I had the radio pulled out looking for the noise! Eventually found it and wedged cardboard in the spot and done.
Personally I would pull the dash yourself if possible and avoid dealers at all cost(unless you know a competent mechanic and you trust them!)
I'm not sure if Toyota is the same as jeep? The jeep mechanic gets book time for any job. If time runs over they dont get paid hence low quality work

You need to check under the front wheel well. Sometimes the fender skirts will make a noise. Also check all the trim by the windshield, the tweeter on the dash, etc. If you can't find it just take it in, that is what the warranty is for.

As mentioned above, check out the wheel well/engine rubber splash guards. You can wiggle them to reproduce the noise. A couple of those clips can get loose over time. You can’t tell by looking. I gorilla taped my rubber splash guards to the frame two years ago and the tape is still holding strong. Most people have used double stick tape under the clips or just bought bigger clips. There are threads about this. Hopefully it’s your problem because it’s easily fixed. And you won’t have to tear into your dash. Good luck.

You might check the little plastic trim pieces at the bottom corners of your windshield. On the outside. Less likely I think but one of mine made squeaking sounds. I just replaced it with a new one.

It sounded like it was coming from the speaker pod on the driver's side dash. I shall inspect soon.
Having been through the used car nightmare we actually bought the 10 yr 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty on this (plan on keeping it a while).
I understand now that the dealership is robbery. I should have saved the money for repairs from local off road shop!
I personally don't want to pull the dash @ 7 months old. Plus, we have a lot of family illness to deal with so that leaves little time.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will call my independent mechanic tomorrow & see if he can see any TSB's.
    This may get interesting.

I don’t know if it’s the same thing... but mine started squeaking from what sounds like the lower windshield at about 5k miles.

It’s not a squeak like a mouse squeak. But it’s like the windshield “glue” is squeaking. Like that sound when you pull apart two things that are stuck together with honey (weird description but that’s what it sounds like).

And it’s only at certain temps as far as I can tell. It’s not constant. I won’t hear it for days and then all of the sudden I get in in the morning, drive off, and it sounds like my windshield glue is squishy or something. Super weird. Hoping I don’t have a leaky windshield. But again, there’s nothing a dealer can do about it. I’ll never be able to reproduce it for them. And without pulling the windshield, there’s nothing to see.

I will be certain to check all these places for the noise & keep you all up to date. The dealer is my last resort. They will pull the dash apart & forget half of the fasteners (been there).
I thank you all for your leads & input.
I will report more tomorrow (please remember that this is the wife's daily).
    Thanks,
    Ryan

I'm not sure the dealership would even take a dash apart over a squeak.

It’s definitely falling apart, I’d trade it in for a Jeep or a Mini before the engine blows.

That's too bad; I traded in a 2005 Yukon with 100k miles that drove me nuts with the all of the squeaks and rattles. Like you, a big attraction of the 4Runner was the reputation of being rock solid. So far, with only 2000 miles and many of those miles on backcountry washboarded roads, it remains tight as a drum.

A random squeak would drive me nuts. One of the Yukon squeaks appeared after I had Safelite replace the windshield after a large crack appeared. They broke a clip on the A-Pillar cover and I had to wedge some thick paper in it before I got around to having them replace it.

I assume you haven't had the windshield replaced...

    No, no replacement windshield.
I haven't even been in the vehicle since that day. It is wife's daily & we are busy!
I will try & isolate it this weekend.
    Thanks to all.

Rattle rattle as in credit card tap tap tap tap on top of dash?

Or squeak squeak squeak as in chaca chaca chaca quuiko quuiko quiko sound?

Definetely look under speedometer inside look for any karr aftermarket alarm module JUNK. POP.HOOD and look by firewall. I hate rattles.

My 2017 corolla I traded in had a dash rattle behind speedo that was only heard at highway speeds on 85+ days. SURPRISINGLY DEALER FIXED IT under warranty. Notes said installed dash foam kit. No more rattles and dash looked exactly like it came off assembly line. Maybe luck.

My 2010 ford ranger when new had a bee sound frequenc rattle by windshield. Dealer fixed it under warranty. Notes said wire harness not anchored to anchor points. Secure harness and foam pad all contact points. Notes said they had to drop steering column.

My 2020 4 runner is solid rattle free even on rough roads.

U have stock suspension? Stiff aftermarket coils shocks?? Remember that noise travels in contact points and bounces too. U cheked glove.box?

    Thanks for your thoughts.
I was unable to spend enough time with it last weekend. I hope tomorrow & Sunday I can get some more silent test time in it.
I promise to keep this thread updated as I find things.
My wife drives it daily but I am sure the radio is cranked.
Fyi. All upgrades are in my information page & I still need to check the plastic trim pieces.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

Completely stock suspension & only the manuals & a flashlight in the glovebox.
The noise was coming from the drivers dash speaker/ tweeter. I shall drive & listen to report more tomorrow.
I hope it was a gremlin! Lol

This was also prevalent on my 2010 4Runner. I’m sure it’s an engineering issues with the windshield molding on the left side of the vehicle. When I can pop it off with my fingers with minimal resistance I can presume it’ll rattle and make noise with a little wind resistance.

It’s also the same on the right side too. That shit it’s super easy to remove and not entirely too secure.

My noises are only noticeable @ idle in drive. So it isn't wind noise...
Where exactly should I look for these plastic clips? Are they easily seen or under the dash?
I have had no reason/use in the 8 months of ownership to "explore" the entire vehicle. I know some of you know these inside out.
Thanks to all & may we find the issue & a fix!

Would going to somewhere like safelite to replace just the windshield molding with proper adhesive help your situation at all?
    Thanks for helping,

Just had safe lite out to replace my windscreen with Netflix doc windscreen. Same sound as before.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with the molding around the windscreen I think it’s the plastic pieces that attach to the piece that’s at the base of the windscreen. The plastic bit that’s between the hood and the windscreen. There’s two pieces that attach to it on the left and right side and they just snap in but rattle like hell

That should be easy enough to isolate, no? Tape it down tight with duct tape and see if the noise stops? Then you’d at least know the cause?

So, you are telling me that the 4runner has a flaw? Well then, time to get a jeep with tons of flaws! LMAO
I will look into this real deep tomorrow or Sunday and see what I can find. Sadly, ours has only seen a few gravel roads (family issues), however with 5,500 miles if I can reproduce it constantly I have a valid repair case.
Time will tell. Thank you all again!

Or it’s the big piece that’s under the windscreen cause I watched the safelite guy pop it out with one hand

I knew that’s the piece you were talking about. If that piece is squeaking, tape it down or remove it and see if the squeak stops (op).

the tabs are super delicate on the piece that’s long and goes all the way across the windshield. So be careful if you mess with it.

This looks like just a water diverter. Hard to think the vibration would cause cabin noise; but yours was @ speed.
The second part you speak of. Was it inside the vehicle or on/around the hood as before?
This is a bizarre problem with differing circumstances that cause it...

It’s got a lot of “flaws” but nothing like the Tacoma or other brands.

my 2003 Tacoma had a major dash rattle issue. Even a TSB for it. Months later after taking it in I found 1/2 dozen nitrile gloves shoved under the dash. Yeah.. the tsb was some 3m stuff but the dealership said nitrile gloves were cheaper.

All things considered it’s a fantastic vehicle with a robust and solid engine, driveline and tried and true options. A little dash rattle doesn’t bother me too much when everything else I do to it is way worse

I would never sell our T4R over some dash rattle! We love this tank. Sarcasm doesn't work in text form. We shall drive the tires off this thing! There is a reason we got the '19! Not knocking the '20's. I hate intrusive electronics.
