Looking to buy a 4Runner

Yes, the Japanese build is a MAJOR feature on the 4R, and one you will appreciate even more the longer you own it I think. That plant is maybe one of the highest quality production facilities in the world.

 

I had to get used to the brakes as they were way different than my MKZ...nose dive and the back end doing a little fish tailing on a sudden slam, but I also had to learn adjust my driving style as after 25 years or so of driving this was my first truck. No more hugging the shoulder while taking 360 degree highway ramps at 60-70 mph anymore....my absolute favorite thing to do and one thing I do miss.

From what I've gathered a lot of the steering vibration issues are a mixture of balance and quality issues related to the Dunflops. My steering wheel sort of vibrated at first around 60 mph with the stock SR5 wheels but when I put the Dunflops on the half inch wider stock trail wheels I had powder coated that all went away.

You'll be good. This rig rocks. Stereo sucks though.

 

I did the same thing. Went from a 2017 Tacoma to a 2019 4Runner. The 4Runner is a step up by leaps and bounds in my opinion. I live at 8,000 feet and have had no power or transmission issues. I did have some steering wheel vibration after putting on the Copper AT tires, but the second balance got rid of that. Drives smooth on pavement and great off-road. Good luck if you go for it.

 

I was able to get Big Red in to the dealer today and they balanced the tires and checked alignment. Tires were unbalanced but alignment was fine. Drove like a dream on the way home !

 

I purchased a 2019 SR5 Premium this week and it shimmys at 60-65 the worst. Salesman assured me it would be corrected but after 4 hours of waiting the day of purchase and then leaving it with them 2 days I’m starting to wonder if they know how to RFB or if I’m getting the runaround. Service manger agreed it still has a “ghost” shimmy at speeds from 50-70 but not consistent. I went through this with a CRV and local Honda dealer and never did get it resolved.

 

Good luck. Being so new you might ask your salesman if you can swap yours for a different one. It sounds crazy but I did exactly that three days after bringing mine home. The service dept. tried swapping wheels and tires first and couldn’t stop the shimmy. Hope it works out for you.

 

Do you know how many days that is an option? I am now out of town for work and won’t get back for a week. I was thinking of just swapping all 4 wheels and tires with one on the lot to see if problem stays, changes slightly or goes away altogether.

 

We tried swapping tires and the problem persisted. That is a good place to start. I called my salesman the next day and requested they let me swap for a different 4Runner. My salesman was awesome and had already spoken to the service advisor and confirmed the problem. To answer your question, I don't think a dealership has to allow a client to swap vehicles, even the next day. It's my understanding that my salesman and dealership decided it was the right thing to do and they took care of me. If this is your hope, I'd contact your salesman ASAP. He'll need to work on it with management. I only shared my experience in case you can get the same treatment I got. I felt really lucky. I hope changing out tires/wheels fixes your problem. That'd be easiest. Be sure to give it a useful test drive. Good luck!
