Well, the clutch finally went out on the 3slow, and we are deep into dropping the tranny with days to go before we head to the Stones in Seattle and have reached a stumbling point in the clutch replacement.

It seems as though there are two pins at the bottom of the main seal housing and we can’t get it out. I can’t find any notes anywhere on how to get it out, does anyone have any ideas without dropping the pan?

So basically after the removal of the pilot bearing we got stumped as instead of the 2 bolts that seem to come out of the bottom of the housing were nuts on he end of studs? We removed the nuts, but can’t seem to be able to knock out the rear main seal housing. Has anyone seen this before? I can’t find any info on it anywhere.

Has anyone had this issue before, do I need to drop the oil pan, and if I do, can you do that without unbolting the motor mounts and lifting the motor?

    Thanks, Ian

You do not need to remove the seal carrier to replace the rear main seal.
The seal has a steel inner form to it for the pressfit to work. Drill it, thread in a slide hammer and yank it out. Bang in the new one flush with the outside surface of the seal carrier.
