In order to get a locker for my RWD 3rd gen, I was advised that a 1st gen tacoma was the way to go. Then upgrade it with a cable conversion from LCE.
    Anyone have experience? Suggestions?

That is not the most efficient option.

If you get a Tacoma axle you will need to weld on all the spring and trac bar hardware.

If you only get the 3rd member to put in your current axle there will also be modifications to the axle to make the e-locker 3rd fit.

Best option is an ARB locker and compressor to operate it.

I too am looking to get a locker. However, I have a rear locker in my '97 already. I would like to get a front locker. Is the ARB recommended for that too? Other suggestions?

I finally elected to have Ken at gearinstalls rebuild my third member. Went with 4.10 nitro gears and the true-trac limited slip unit. Fully automatic operation.
