    Hello All,

Just got a 2019 4Runner. I had a 2017 Tundra but the wife is vertically challenged and was terrified to drive it. We pull a small Teardrop trailer and I wanted something to pull it and do a little mild off roading. After shopping around I decided the 4Runner was the best choice. I really like the ride and the wife likes it too. I’m getting ready to install a brake controller and take a few trips with the trailer. I’ll try to add some pictures when I figure out how!

Welcome! Tear drop trailer shouldn't be a problem. If you have to travel long mountain passes in the future or feel the need to tow a heavier rig, thinking about monitoring transmission temps would be my only advice right now. There are several options available. I use the Torque Pro app (Android friendly) with a BAFX OBD II bluetooth adapter. Works great and last I checked only about 30 bucks for the adapter and 5 for the app. Have fun and be prepared to steal it back from your wife! You'll never see it again.

Welcome. We got a 2019 ORP with the idea of pulling a trailer and exploring backroads. My 2003 Tacoma 4x4 with a manual trans and 2.7L engine was too small and “trucky” for what we want to do (still have it for doing pickup errands). I’m interested in how pulling your teardrop with your T4R compares to pulling it with your Tundra. Again, welcome.

I read in another forum about transmission temps. I bought the Ultra-Gauge and am getting it setup on my iPhone. You are right about stealing it back! We have a 2015 RAV4 that she drives. It has all of the bells and whistles. She really likes it. We were racking up a lot of miles and the Tundra was sitting. Another reason to trade for the 4Runner! Thanks for the welcome!

4x Old Guy, your story sounds exactly like mine! When we first got our trailer I had a Tacoma 2x automatic and it just couldn’t do the hills and mountains. I went with the Tundra 4x4 and it was great! It had the smaller V8 but was plenty for that trailer and gear. It was pretty high to get in and it was stock. My wife is short and she hated it after a while and it is a large truck! Parking in a regular parking lot was a challenge for me sometimes! It sat while we drove the wife’s RAV4. I got tired of making payments while it sat and racking up the miles on the Rav. I’ll let you know how it compares! Thanks for the welcome!
