I noticed a well described post from 2015 and I am encountering the same issue now.
Original post: My rear hatch lock stopped working one day. It just wouldn't open, made no noises when I hit unlock, nothing. I disconnected the battery and the door started working again. Then, the rear window would not go down with the key (either way, the button on the key or using the physical key). A few days later the window started working again, then both stopped again. A battery disconnect got them working again, but then they both stopped over time. Important to note is that the window button on my dash has NOT stopped working.

My post: I suspect my issue is with the tailgate electronic control module. Rather than buying a new electronic control module I think I can purchase a used one from a local junkyard for approx. $50, if not used I'll buy a new control unit however I want to make sure the problem is with the control module before I purchase. Is there a way to test the module before I make the purchase?

Here's a pic of my control module:
