no modifications yet other than adding the tent. looking to lift it soon and add some accessories. Just looking for recommendations.
I've had my 4runner for a little over 2 years and I'm looking to do some modifications. I know I want to lift it and change the tires. Any recommendations on all terrain tires. Something more aggressive than the factory ones but I don't need anything super aggressive..IMG_3473.jpgC698A4D0-7EF3-44A7-8084-53106515F3EA.jpg

I second Coopers, I had to do an aggressive maneuver when a lab ran out in front of me this spring. They responded flawlessly and didn’t break traction at all!!!

They are Falken Wildpeak M/T in the 285/70/17 variety, a little over kill for my grocery getter.

Here's Falkan wildpeak in stock size. A set can be had for under 600 and hands down(I think) they are better than KO2s that are horrible in Chicago winters. They have 100s of awesome reviews on the other forum so I tried them. No winter yet but summer driving is great!

I've ran the Cooper AT3s and wasn't too impressed with snow performance or wear. Actually had the Falken Wildpeaks in my cart on Amazon. Outstanding tires.

But I couldn't resist being a rebel and ordered the Goodyear Wrangler Authority's from Walmart for $640 at my door.

I had them on a Jeep Wrangler and loved the aggressive look, awesome performance, aggressive sidewalls, and outstanding reviews.

But for your needs, I'd go with the Falkens.

    What's the 4S version?

I found a copy of the invoice and a picture of the tires...

Looks like the non 4S version. You could check on your tire sidewall to verify.

The AT3 4S is a newer version of the AT3 that has the snowflake symbol. Supposedly an enhanced version of the original with better snow/winter performance.

For all I know, it could just be a slightly different/updated rubber compound. That's essentially what Michelin did when moving from the old MS2 to the Defender. They look identical to the old ones.

Well, how do you use the rig? I'm a die hard BFG guy, but running toyos. I have ran them before and they work really well for me. Get me out on the trails with no issue, but great all weather handling for the 98% of my mileage.

Do your homework. Tire size is not the way to choose a tire. Look at the ratings, weight, durability and figure what works for you. I do firmly believe that one should never pinch pennies on rubber. Get the absolute best for your situation, only four little patches of rubber keeping you on the road in multiple conditions. Not the time to cheap out.
