Why so little talk about Limited/Nightshade models?

The salesman kept saying he preferred the faux leather seats because they last longer and are more durable? Not sure if that's accurate or not. I've always been a fan of real leather, but it's not a deal breaker at all.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my questions here, you've helped out immensely. Pretty sure I'll be going with the 2020 Nightshade version. Hopefully my dealer gets them in stock by mid September. Either way, as soon as they arrive I'll scoop one up and share pics with you all.

Seems like you know what you want! You also seem to have the money for it! If you nodded along to both of those then you’re going in the correct direction. The nightshade edition looks to be a page out of nissan’s book (they offer a similar addition). At the end of the day, buy what makes you happy, like other members before, the difference is in esthetics. If you don’t plan to regear and mod heavily, you best post them LE picks mah dude! Best of luck!!

New to the forum and a limited owner. Like most people in the world I use my car 70+% of the time for commuting. I live in the south east and terrain isn't really a problem for where I'd most likely go. When I hunted I had a Tundra SR5 4x4 and rarely needed to put it in 4x4 except when the Georgia clay timber roads got muddy. The Limited suits my needs just fine and still give me all the 4x4 capability I'll ever need. And I don't like the face of the non limited models. Call me an old fuddy duddy.

If you plan to offroad a Limited I'd recommend getting a gas tank skid. For some reason Toyota leaves this off of the Limited model.

I got the Limited for the nicer interior, keyless entry (why don't all models have this?), and AWD mainly. I haven't done much modification and have done a bit of offroading without issue, aside from a few scrapes here and there. I'd say the front bumper has been my most limiting factor so far.

no it means having a smart key and you just have the remote in your pocket or near by and can unlock with touch (no keypad), and also start the car with push button start.

You can still use a remote, or standard key if that is your preference. (for getting in the vehicle)

What's not to like about it? I've never met anybody that didn't appreciate this feature.

A new 4Runner seems to be one of the few $40k+ vehicles that this feature doesn't come standard one actually.

Begs the question, how do you unlock and start your car when the key is not near? Kind of the same argument, no?

I prefer the old, simple key for the ignition. The fob part of the key is fine to lock and unlock the 4Runner. It is one of the things I really enjoy about the 4Runner. It still has some "old school" about it.

As for salesmen not knowing as much about their products as they should, I see it time and again. I try to research a vehicle a ton before I buy it. Our 4Runner salesman did know a lot about it. And I am grateful for it. Nothing worse then constantly realizing your salesman knows so little about a vehicle you are thinking of purchasing. I will also say that the salesman who sold us the Shelby really knew his sh*t about them. He is the salesman who is our Ford dealership's performance car specialist. He knows all about Shelby Mustangs, Bullitt Mustangs, etc. it helps if your salesman is also an enthusiast.

This smart key vs bladed key war is currently the best part of the forum. I’m worried someone will get knifed soon, and it will surely be one of the smart key crew, because... well, they can’t stab, can they?

WRONG. We can sneak attack. Key is hiding in fob.

Just me,.. the limited, to me, is ugly. Brings nothing to my table.
Night shade, is upcharged as shit for nothing. Guess the name? I can black out my own stuff, or whatever. Does nothing, brings nothing to my table.
    Again, just me.

I had a 2005 gen4 limited with 180k miles and traded it in for a 2019 TRD Off Road because all bells and whistles that come with a limited ended up breaking. Leaking sunroof, climate control went out, subwoofer blown, some other little things that got annoying. Something to think about if you are planning to keep the vehicle for 10+ years. I do miss that 4.7L V8 though...

Here is my opinion: The limited just doesn’t have a very appealing front end like the other models do. They almost look like a completely different vehicle and are not attractive in the least. If it’s the leather interior you’re after, just buy a different model and add leather seat covers and save a bunch of money. I could be wrong but, I wouldn’t think the limited would have as good as a resale value since it’s the least popular model and doesn’t have that bad ass look like the pro or TRD Has. But maybe I’m wrong there. Also, it’s easy to black out whatever you want to give it that nightshades look.
The 20” wheels aren't a big deal. My wife has aftermarket 20x9 wheels on BFG ATs and she gets compliments on her ride constantly. People are always pulling up next to her at lights or in parking lots wanting to check her truck out. But she will never wheel this thing other than through one of our pastures. It’s all about looks for her.

I respect your opinion, but when the Gen 5.2 came out, I thought the Limited looked better than the others, 'cept for all that freakin' chrome. That's a lot of painting/wrapping. Then came the Limited Nightshade. Don't really care for the joules on the others. JMHO!

I liked the fact that my Gen 4 Limiteds had very little chrome. Not a fan of chrome. I blacked a lot of the chrome on my '13 limited and all badges on my '15 Mustang GT. Again, JMHO.

I’ll have to disagree with this. If done poorly, sure it will hurt resale. If done properly, not at all.

My father in law says chrome is for old guys. He loves chrome...but at least he does drive a new F150 lifted on 35’s.
