My 2005 Yukon had a Tow Mode button that I would engage that basically held the shift points longer and kept the transmission out of overdrive. Was great for towing.

I did a search on the forum and online and haven't found any reference to any such feature on the 2019 4Runners. Do they have and OD override button? Or do I just have to shift it over to the "S" mode and manually shift it?

I kind of miss that ECT button on the Tacoma. I used it when towing... And when i wanted to pass someone LOL

You'll want to bump it over to S-mode and drive in D4.

S-modes are nothing more than a gear limiter. You can shift on the fly. Just tap it wherever you want it.

I think the torque converter is removed from the equation in S3 and S4.

    Shift into Manual mode.
It will say 4th gear. It is not in 4th gear.
It is in first gear. Listen to the shifts.
Using manual mode locks out 5th gear (thus the 4th gear reading). You can manually shift to 5th if the terrain is conducive.
This is basically your O/D off button. Not sure if it locks the T/C as in some "tow" modes.
    Hope it helps.
Please advise if I missed something.

P.S. you may downshift to help engine brake & bring it all down quicker.
It will not upshift in this mode. You must upshift to the appropriate gear.
It is almost a 4 spd manual except it holds the gear as you slow down.

It’s not manual mode, you are not shifting the trans, it’s still shifting when and where it wants your just choosing the highest gear it can upshift into.

Correct. I have been doing this while pulling my trailer for the last 5k miles.

Too many mods and too much money
This graph is a little vague, but kind of explains converter lock out. I don't tow, but I do know when mine is loaded down at hwy speeds and hit a steep grade, then shift over to S4 the trans goes to 4th with no lock up. The lock up will kick back in while still in 4th after the given load going uphill, rpms, and speed match up to the ECU parameters. I think lock up will disengage to help with braking on a downgrade but not entirely sure how that operation works though. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.
