Anyone have any recommendations and/or knowledge (brand, retailer, size, etc) they could provide on utility trailers?

I will only be using the trailer occasionally for yard/house projects (e.g hauling gravel for new driveway), moving into a new house, random large purchases, etc.

There are often local trailer fab shops that make very high quality trailers- much better than what you'll find at big box stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc). I'd just google trailers in your local area or on google maps and see if you can find some local sellers.

I've been looking for one too. For the same things as you. It's looking like a high quality 5x8 aluminum trailer is gonna run about $2k, give or take. Lesser quality trailers are less money, obviously.

I bought a utility trailer right after buying my 4 so I would essentially have a 5x10 truck bed. I wanted a better quality trailer than what you get at Lowes, etc...I bought a 5x10 Big Tex 30SA. I sprang for a better quality trailer because it is a long term investment for me. This trailer will probably last my lifetime if I do my part. LED lighting, brakes, and a spare tire bolted on the side. I treat the wood yearly. I changed the jack to a front handle jack so I could add a tongue box from Tractor Supply. It's a great trailer and I have had no issues for 3 years and counting now.

I have an Aluma 5x9 all aluminum ultily trailer with 14’ inch tires. It’s super light weight and tracks excellently on the highway. It will cost you more but IMHO well worth the price if you plan on keeping it a long time (higher quality hubs/wiring/etc) or plan to take it on the highway. 2F4652A7-D650-4F4E-8F49-ECD5D45AA368.jpg

All aluminum is specially the way to go if it's going to see much weather. If you're able to garage anything you buy a decent quality trailer should almost last "forever" well that is as long as you'd need it. Buying a Home Depot model usually doesn't pay in the long run and it'll never break down in your driveway it'll always be 50 miles from home on a pouring rainy day or when it's 15 degrees out. Why does it always happen that way???

I also fluid film my all metal trailer. An I would probably fluid film it if it was aluminum also. Salt and well any metal, don't mix.

Another vote for a Big Tex....well built trailer. I went with the 35SA and I love it!

Depends if your in a snow belt where they use chemicals to de-ice. I had an alumna and the road salt or chemicals pitted the heck out of it and turned the bed black. That and the coupler had disimular metal than the ball so the ball turned black .
Looking forward to seeing the newer 150s by me turn to dust in a few years

Bought a Summit 7x10 with raised sides and optional back gate that converts into ramps. I then flipped the axle, added 30" Goodyear Wranglers, a ladder rack on the front, stained the bed, and added 4 extra tie-downs. I use it to haul my Honda P500 UTV. Works great in the mountains. It was $1750.

How infrequently will you use it? A large utility trailer is $18 for a day at U-Haul... I just grab one for 24 hrs for any projects that require a trailer. No issues with storing it, registering it, and if it breaks down they have roadside assistance and insurance for the contents. If you only need a trailer 4-8 times a year that's the way to go. I actually just rented one that I used to haul 2 tons of gravel... both the trailer and the 4Runner looked like they were about to collapse into the pavement.

Coming from a truck,.my trailer use varies but I would rather own. I know it will be there when I want it and not have to worry about what time the rental place closes. Not much maintenance at all. I just use 303 aerospace on the tires and after 8 years they still look new
