Product Description
Will my phone be compatible?
The Motorola MA1 requires a compatible Android phone with an active data plan and 5GHz Wi-Fi support, running at least Android 11.0. This product is not compatible with Apple phones and does not support Apple CarPlay.
Will my car be compatible?
The Motorola MA1 can enable a wireless Android Auto connection in cars, trucks or motorcycles equipped with factory-fitted wired Android Auto. This product is not compatible with all vehicles - please check with your vehicle manufacturer for details.
Will the Motorola MA1 provide Android Auto features to cars not equipped with Android Auto?
No. If your vehicle is not equipped with factory-fitted wired Android Auto then the Motorola MA1 will not work and should not be purchased. This product only enables a wireless connection with a factory-fitted wired Android Auto vehicle.
What can cause the wireless Android Auto connection with Motorola MA1 to drop out during a journey?
Android Auto requires an active data plan and cellular signal. If the cellular signal is lost, the Android phone will switch off Wi-Fi and disconnect from the Motorola MA1 – when cellular signal returns, Wi-Fi turns on and the connection is restored.
How can I update the software on the Motorola MA1?
The Motorola MA1 is the only wireless USB car adapter using Google-licensed bridge technology. Any updates for the wireless receiver technology contained in the product are delivered via Android Auto app through the Android phone.

The USB cable on device is very short and NOT detachable from the unit. However, in my case, this worked out very well.
Reasonably priced compared to the many other units I've looked at. Only one button on it and that's used to pair your phone. Also, you can pair multiple phones.
Original:
Most buy a Wireless AA adapter for convenience. I bought it to solve very frustrating repeated wired disconnects (due to a buggy Infotainment system). Frankly, I always prefer wired connections when feasible simply for reliability reasons – but incredibly, in this case the opposite proved true.
Some reviews claim this unit didn’t work for them. Below I will explain why this might happen, and how to fix it.
I originally bought a cheap Chinese Wireless AA adapter for convenience. That turned out to be a mistake. After an update to Android Auto, it no longer worked. What I had hoped to save me $$, ended up costing me time & money in the end.
A wired connection did make me uncomfortable because the placement of my phone made the connector at the base of the phone vulnerable to inadvertent stress and breakage. So wireless is advantageous in that regard too.
However, the major issue with my wired connection was frequent disconnects due to bugs in the manufacture’s Infotainment system. Often that’s due to a faulty cable or connector. But that was not the case for me. I could wiggle the cable without a problem. But there were several common triggers that would cause my AA to quit while its status would toggle ON/OFF about twice per second until I unplugged my phone and started over. I don’t know why going wireless fixed this, but it did. (For the record, I am running Android 13).
Here’s why Wireless AA may not initially work for some… and how to fix it: Phones have Data Saver settings that block cellphone data when the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network. The problem is that Google Maps and Spotify etc. need data to work. But the wireless connection to AA has no Internet access! Thus, you end up with no Wi-Fi data and no cellphone data. The solution is to find the setting in your phone that allows it to use cellphone data even when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
One last comment: I was skeptical this Wireless AA adapter would solve my problems. But with Amazon’s 30day return policy, I was willing to take the gamble. And it paid off very nicely.
Warning: wireless Android Auto drains battery and heats up the phone REGARDLESS of this gadget. I experienced it in vehicles that come with wireless Android Auto by default. It's just how it is, you have to accept that. Wired connection is still preferred if going on a long trip or needing to save battery.
Connection is immediate (or as soon as the entertainment display boots up). Zero delays with controls (skip song, volume up/down, call/hang up, voice Assistant).
This is easily one of the best upgrades for my vehicle. Strongly recommend this vs other aftermarket versions originating from China.
***UPDATE after 2.5mo using:
Absolutely no regrets for buying this gadget. When I first bought it, I had a Google Pixel 7, upgraded to Pixel 8 early October. Reset the device to factory settings and paired my new phone, no issues at all. My only advice to new users: Practice. Patience. I know people want things to happen immediately, but this requires establishing both Bluetooth and Bluetooth WiFi connection. If your phone is still connected to your home WiFi (and your settings are set to preferred WiFi), you WILL experience a delay while you're pulling out of the driveway. You may also experience a delay if you're switching from one Bluetooth device to other (for example, if I'm connected to my Pixel Buds Pros, it may take 15 extra seconds for my phone to decide which device to connect to). Factors that play into that will be your phone, the car's entertainment system, and the WiFi connection you're on. Trying to force a connection to Motorola may not always result in success - just let it do it's thing, it will connect.
Still haven't figured out 2 phones alternating when both are in the vehicle, but can't be bothered to spend more time on it, it genuinely doesn't matter to me. Hopefully someone finds a way, but I blame my car more than anything because it's really aggressive with its Bluetooth pairing (will connect even just opening the driver's door without key presence or the car running).
10/10 recommend. Can't go back to cable connection, ever.
