I live in a rural area, so mice are an expected nuisance, especially in the cold temperatures of winter. I don't believe in killing any living creatures, so I use humane traps to catch mice, and then relocate them far enough away that they won't return. In researching how to prevent mice from entering my home in the first place, I read that peppermint oil has a scent that repels rodents, so I decided to give this non-toxic solution a try. This particular product's description and reviews sounded promising, so I gave it a try. That was a mistake.
I sprayed this product all around the inside and outside of my house: interior and exterior walls, window sills and doorframes, any possible entry points, and spots where I had recently caught mice. I repeated this process several times within the past 11 days. I was worried about how the spray would smell, but it actually has a very pleasant scent, which wafted throughout my home. The pleasing aroma ended up being the only benefit of using this brand of spray. Unfortunately, mice seem to enjoy the smell too.
During the 11 days that I have sprayed Harris Peppermint Oil Mice & Rodent Repellent Spray, I have caught a total of 9 mice, always in spots that were doused with this repellent. Apparently mice are not repelled by this scent at all. They have not left my home, and they have not stopped entering my home. This "repellent" has not deterred them one bit. Since squirrels are also rodents, I was worried that spraying this product all around the outside of my house would deter them from eating from the feeders on my porch. It has not. All 13 of the squirrels are still congregating on my porch all day every day.
I'm not sure if peppermint oil truly works as a rodent repellent or not. This particular product, Harris Peppermint Oil Mice & Rodent Repellent Spray, smells great, but is completely ineffective at repelling mice. If you want your house to smell nice, save yourself some money, and buy a $1 air freshener spray. If you want to keep mice out of your home, try something else...

So, to wrap this up, I haven't noticed the problem since applying this under the hood. I even bought some pure peppermint oil and added a few drops to make it stronger. Since it seemingly worked so well normally, I figured a bit more peppermint may even help out any neighboring cars in close proximity when parked in our lot.
So far so good, haven't noticed any critters since, and car smells so much better now when you cut on the air. Now just got to fork over the bill to have the air ducts and engine bay cleaned out to completely rid it of any residual. Spray again after...
So far so good. I'd recommend it based on my experience so far. It seems to work as advertised. I will just say it could be cheaper though.
