has anyone done or had anything extra done to there 4Runner underneath for added protection?

    Fluid film, krown, etc.

I see there is some type of undercoating on my frame, it almost looks like the wax like material that is on my 15 Silverado.

I am a big fan of fluid film, but have read that fluid film reacts with the wax stuff on my Silverado and will actually make the OEM stuff come off.

    Anyone?

Alright thanks! I searched here but couldn’t find anything.

Do you buy the can or the gallon with a sprayer?

I have been doing the cans although the gallon and sprayer works well from what I have seen others do. It takes about 5-6 cans but I may put it on a little heavy. If I had access to a lift I would probably use the gallon/sprayer. It's just easier to use the cans while crawling on the dirt. I buy a disposable paint suit and wear a respirator and safety goggles. An hour of pain in de arse and $50 or so once a year gives you a rust free undercarriage, I consider that worth it.

It works good from the videos I have seen on the tube. I don't have a compressor either so...but I do feel the sprayer would do a better job and probably use less product.

Does this hold up to undercarriage spray at the car wash? I have a 20 buck a month package and run it through few times a week whenever the road salt hits

When I run mine through one of those no touch car washes I drive fast over the undercarriage washer as it is really unnecessary to wash it under there since it is fluid filmed. In the spring I wash it under there pretty well. The Fluid film holds up pretty well doing this

One thing about the fluid film, your dealer will think your motor blew oil all over the undercarriage because your dealer is a complete idiot. It also make it messy putting on a lift or working on things under the vehicle.

i will probably do fluid film at the end of the summer/early fall before i hit the beaches for surf fishing.

question: if i have a couple small rust spots, is it best to sand/grind/whatever the rust off, re-paint, then film it? i feel like the answer is obvious, but just want to make sure.

awesome thanks. i figured as much, but had read a couple of things about letting the fluid film penetrate the rust first or something along those lines.

your 2015 silverado will be a rusted vehicle .. GM did a very poor job on these trucks.. the wax hides the rust.. that is why I had to replace the fuel tank cross over frame rear of tank.. the rust hole was 12 inches long.. I do inspections on my 2000 twice a year spring and fall .. then I clean up the rust and use galv paint or a mineral based fiber brush on material..

on my 2o16 runner the issue I had was the soft plastic wheel well covers were not secure. so the paint will wear out as they move and then rust out.. I modified these so that I installed new fasteners and used s/steel screws to lock the plastic panels in place.. I put on the inner fenders the brush on rust proofing .. so far no rust on the body .. looks like new.

the frame welds need to be painted ..I wire brush the welds and put on galv paint.. then 2-3 days later I will cover the spots with rustoleum high performance paint.. spray or brush on...frame looks perfect..

the other thing I do is spray homedepot silicone spray on the cv boots / steering joints/bushings...
the control arm bushings must be sprayed or rust will prevent the alignment shop to adjust.. expensive to get the alignment done if not lubed ..

My 2015 Silverado barely has any signs of rust on the frame anywhere actually.

I’m the guy that pulls inner fender wells out and all light assemblies and many other components off every spring and washes in places people don’t even know exist.

How many cans of fluid film to do the inner frame, doors, fenders? I will be using other products on the exterior frame and floor boards.

I have used Eastwood internal frame coating on a my Land Rovers with success, about three cans per side.

It will spray out of the holes in the frame as you apply it but it's not bad...also.... Eastwood now makes the inner frame paint in black and it would be better to use it unless you need the green to ensure proper and thorough application. When I used it on my FJ62 they only made it in green

Yes three per frame rail. Did both my 97 Discovery and 92 Defender, with three per side. You can tape the holes in the frame rail as well if you wish, I did not. In addition, best to attach a piece of wire or coat hanger to the application tube/nozzle as it tends to curl up in the frame.

If you have access to a lift....it makes thing much easier. Used one at my buddies shop for one truck and did the other in the driveway. Remember to put down a tarp or moving blanket because it will run out.

If you are heavy off road, I would suggest cleaning the frame rails out with a nozzle and some rubber tubing attached to a garden hose a week or so prior and letting it dry out before application. You can see what came out of one of my trucks.
