Let me start off by saying I’m not a mechanic and I usually stick to direct plug and play stuff. I have a theory if anything can go wrong it will go wrong for me when I attempt more so I try to shy away. Ow I’ve done my research and watched all the videos and the CAI looked like something I could handle.

A couple of issues I’ve run into.
First separating the MAS wires of course were tangled and I was unable to fully separate them.

After dealing with that the instructions that came with it called for removing the passenger fender well and remove some air funnel. I’m assuming since it is actually for a older model and all the stuff I’ve read and watched make no mention of it that it doesn’t exist on the 2018 ORP. I was hoping someone would could verify this as I really don’t want to tear into the fender well.

Now my real issues. When I started the engine I didn’t have the MAS fully seated and I came up with a dashboard of lights. After freaking out I went through the install and found that it wasn’t seated correctly and fixed that. When I restarted it the lights were still there. I then Disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes and installed my Carista to run diagnostics. When I restarted the lights were all clear, but when I ran Carista it came up with these errors. I used it to clear the errors and ran it again and it still has these errors.

I took extra special care with the wires so I’m sure I didn’t Knick anything. Is this normal ? I hate to take it to Toyota for something stupid. Lastly when I shut my engine off I hear a sucking type sound. Is that normal?

Sorry to hear your luck but you sound like you have my same kind of luck. I’ve heard this can be a pain in the ass for later models which is why I have shied away from this mod myself. I REALLY hope you get this fixed and I’m looking forward to someone explaining to how this happened so I may consider this myself later.
I’m looking forward to FUBARing bolt on sliders this weekend myself, as you said, if anything can wrong it will for me!

I have nothing to help. Sorry.
I do however have the same intake waiting to go in.
I am guessing there is something in the fender. Air temps... what?
I have installed many CAI's on many kinds of vehicles.
If problem persists. Ask Toyota. It is a TRD filter!
Watching in wait to install ours...
    Thanks.

Well there is nothing in the fender well. I bought some MAF cleaner and will give it a shot.
I found out that the temp sensor is on the MAF , maybe some how that went bad when I switched it over. I’ll keep digging.

This is to all with aftermarket intakes!
Is this issue specific to the TRD intake system?
    Thanks all!!

The sucking sound on shutdown is normal. It's an emissions air pump that depressurizes the system on shut down.

Thanks sounds like I might have a bad MAF. All I can think/hope is that it may have shorted out when it wasn’t properly seated when I started it the first time.
The wire harness I can chalk up to bad luck and to the sleepy person or machine who made it.
Unfortunately I have a 7 hour drive and I’m still throwing those codes. The Engine runs fine and the test drive went great too. So who knows if it’s really bad or if it doesn’t like the CAI.

I remember reading somewhere that the ECU does have a "learning" time period and can reset parameters for the MAF. So either something got messed up/damaged when you installed the intake or the MAF is reading outside of it's parameters. You could check it with a multimeter or swap your factory intake back on and see if the codes go away. More air though the cold air intake would make me think it's reading outside of it's normal parameters and hopefully adjusts itself. Hopefully this helps

How does it run? The lights on the dashboard are out, but the carista is still reading them? I know on other models the codes wont restet until driving a few miles.

It runs fine. The lights are out but Carista is still showing those codes after a 3 hour drive. I’ll rest the codes on the return trip and see if they come back. I hate to put the old one back. I might just buy a new MAF and see if that fixes it.

Update after 7 hour drive I did another scan. I’m down to 1 codeADB7F048-F7E9-4D99-B912-949317E4A1CA.jpg
I will say that my gas mileage was awesome and it ran like a dream. So I’m not quite sure what’s going on.

Stock paper filter. I'm not playing with oiled filters anymore (not like I'm running lap times). Fyi, get two oiled filters, when you clean one install the the other. Clean and oil the 1st so it drains the excess oil.

    Update
I realized my daughter’s MY16 RAV4 has the same MAF as my 4Runner.
So I swapped them out to see if the error reproduced on the RAV4. The only error I got was the P0113 temp error which went away after driving the 4Runner so I assume it will go away on the RAV4.
The 4Runner with the swapped out MAF still had the same P0102. I ran multiple test engine running engine off and cleared after each time same result.
I put the MAF back in their original vehicles and retested. The RAV4 has the P0113 which should go away with driving and the 4Runner is back to having both P0113 and P0102.
This made me think wire harness, so I stripped the tape and stuff off and triple checked the wire for nicks and any other issues and found none.
I’ve been searching for any kind of diagram the shows what the wires are and how to test them.
    EA993F66-9621-4E8A-962C-79C95BF00AE7.jpg
I found this and was able to do the first test and it passed. I wasn’t able to do the second one because I couldn’t get access to any part of the wires to test with.
    58710828-5188-48F3-8224-4FCF40E9E66B.jpg
I found this but maybe I’m crazy but the grounds don’t match up. I put he neg of my meter to ground and ohms out each wire and I got tone on 2&4 and not 2&5.

I was thinking it might have been the air filter till I started this testing but it pulled the P0102 code with the ignition on but engine not running. So I assume it has to be something electrical so now I’m really baffled.

I hate to go to my dealer since I have 33K on it and it’s out of warranty.

I believe ours came with a 5 yr 60k miles warranty. This should cover the installation of a Toyota product. Especially if nothing is awry or damaged.
If all fails. I say take it to the dealer. Our intakes are OEM on Tundra TRD pro iirc.
    This is insane.

Did you happen to use the spay silicone that everyone thinks they need to assemble the intake tubes?

If Im looking at that correctly 2 and 5 are both grounds for different sensors. Prolly why you didn't get a reading. 2 is the ground for 3 and 5 is the ground for 4

After doing some testing with my volt meter I'm thinking the MAF is fine. The voltage is measured by air flow and temperature. With the CAI installed that would all be changed from the original settings and need to be relearned.
I would have never seen the error codes had I not forgotten to disconnect the battery before installation and had to clear them out.
Just as the P0113 cleared itself I now believe the P0102 will clear itself out and is the reason why people who checked found no codes. If it was a true P0102 code I think the check engine light would be on and I would be having engine idle etc issues that I’m not.

I don't think it's the MAF either. My gut says you're dealing with an electrical issue, if anything.

My plan is I’m diving to the CrossFit Games which is a 6 hour drive for me. I will scan it again and if it’s still there after 12 hours of driving I’ll take it to the dealer and have them look at it when they do my scheduled oil change.
