Gents:I got an '07 SR5-6 cyl. (my 3rd. 4R) with 110000 miles (70% highway) on it. Just replaced struts and front brake pads. The truck is in excellent shape. The questions is: Should I do the maintenance required at this time (+/- $2K) or sell it and buy a new one. Planning to do some full time trailer towing/living with my two dogs for a few years (84 YO and counting). Thanks

110,000 miles is young for a 4Runner. $2k seems about right, although everyone has a different view on this.

The 4th gen can run to 300,000 miles with proper maintenance. Does that help?

At 84 for you and 110k for the 4runner Id just roll with it.
New 5th gens are about $10k more than our 4th gens were new. I ain' got that kind of scratch.

Life is short, I'd put the 2k down on a new model 2019 or if you want the TSS safety stuff, wait a few more months for the 2020.

See what the dealer will give you for trade in and if it's too low see if a family member will beat/match it :)

    Enjoy your travels !!

Have the dealer change the tranny fluid. It's costly but dealer will do it right. Change your own oil and filter for $30, and keep her. I've got 150,000 miles on my 2005 V6 SR5 and she runs like new. No rust on mine.

When you bring it to dealer or independent with a lift - ask him to check front sway bars and lower arm assembly and get the parts at Amazon for cheap.

Brakes are cheap but find a good shop. Front Calipers needed occasionally. A good mechanic can free them up sometimes.

I've owned my 2005 from new and never had a check engine oil light come on in 14 years. Not once.

I drive all short distances under 25 miles a day as I live in Nassau Bahamas. I change my oil with conventional 10W 40 every 6 months or 3000 miles.

Don't replace the struts. Look for rust underneath on frame and spray with corrosionX.

Drain and add 2 gallons of Zerex red Asian long life coolent (50/50 mix) - if it hasn't been changed. Add another gallon of Asian every 9 months. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Asian+long+life+coolent&i=automotive&ref=nb_sb_noss

A year later: How's it going, FreeAlfin? Has the generation 4 4Runner worked for your travels with dogs? What are you pulling, how much weight, does the v6 have good power for the trailer? Does the truck recharge the live-aboard trailer batteries? I'm 72, still young, got a little boat to live aboard that I tow with 4Runner. I hope your trips and adventures are super!
