Another good practice is never fill up at a station if the tanker is there, they stir all kinds of shiznit sitting in the tanks.

WallyTR4 while I agree with you, Charlievee says were protected with a filter, so we shouldn't worry about tankers stirring up chitz.

Lol, never said anything of the sort. Drama being spread when "close to E" was never a measurement of accuracy. "Close to E" can mean 1/8 (thats bellow the latst tick mark but above E... some i come across dont know 1/8th, 1/16,1/32, 1/64...) or it could mean 1/4. Without terms defined, i was besieged by drama. I will wager more gas tanks are contaminated by refueling on grand overland traffic jams, due to dirt in and around the fuel door and crud on the mandatory "roto packs" then comes from any gas station.

Hey chucky The issue with close to e is your fuel pump will burn up quicker because it is exposed when the fuel level is low. Ask me how I know. Had to replace mine in my Tacoma because I ran it close to e.

Had a chuckle earlier this week driving to work. Passed a guy on the highway with a bumper sticker that read "I'm retired go around me." :mudding:

I took a 400 mile road trip today, with 60 miles on the freeway at 80 or above, hills, back-roads, etc. I wound up getting 20.4

Truck is stock except wheels and tires. But those are stock size KO2's

I usually get around 17.5 combined, but I also usually have a roof basket on top.

As far as people being worried about driving with low fuel- I've driven every car I've ever had until the light was on, every tank with few exceptions. I've never had to put a fuel pump in anything except for my '85 supra.

I know running them dry is bad, but they're engineered to run with the fuel level low.

I've recently noticed my 07 4runner 4.7 v8 SR5 on the last trip I made that normally on a full tank it would show on the gas mileage trip on center console, from being full like 345 miles to E. on my way back from that trip it dropped to 298 barely 300 on a full tank. I've done 3 full tanks so far, and they're all under that 340 range. last week it actually went to 309 but that was it! only thing I did to it is put new tires on it 265-70-17 wheels instead of the old 16in, but that was done before the trip. tires are all matching pressure, I even put a new gas cap on it too. any ideas are greatly appreciated!!! thanks in advance, also no lights or codes are on either.

Higher octane fuel does not contain nor produce more power than regular octane fuel. It merely makes the fuel harder to detonate on its own (pre-detonation, pinging or knocking) so that the spark plug can ignite it all at the most optimal time. At higher altitudes, the lower oxygen content of the thinner air accomplishes the same thing by making any fuel more difficult to ignite. My dad had a 1966 Chevy Belair with a 327 (9:1 compression). With regular gas it would ping like crazy under medium load and have serious power issues because of hot spots and compression heating causing the fuel to ignite early which expending part of the its energy working against the piston that was still on the compression stroke. However, with premium fuel it didn’t ping and was back to its normal power as all the fuel was detonating at the top of the compression stroke. On vacation pulling a trailer at 5000’+ elevation, running regular fuel, it didn’t ping. Power was a little less because of the thinner air, not the lower octane fuel. Thin air is why many aircraft have turbos to get the performance at altitude (more air/oxygen = more hydrocarbons can be oxidized thereby liberating more power from the same fuel).

18.5 mpg'ish with mixed driving. I'm not very gentle with the go pedal either.

Southern Cali city driving all day long...14.5 MPG.
Long road to Vegas and points beyond... 21 MPG.
    Total Satisfaction.....Most Excellent!
I had a Tundra for 15 years but needed to have more secure storage. This thing can haul a fuck of a lot w/o any problems.
Load the roof, load the back, seats down, and hook up a trailer. Go where you wanna go. Just put a few 5 gallon gas cans in the back if you're going off road.

Was stuck on 21.1 for the longest time and recently went to 21.2 been there a week now. It's not my daily driver right now sits in the garage a lot of the week and I basically venture out in it weekends doing lots of highway driving. I don't drive like a blue-haired lady but don't beat on it either.

I’m getting about 20MPG but I’m stock. New tires coming soon so I’m guessing I’ll drop a few. No matter what still an improvement from my tundra getting 12:eek:

Completely fill tank with gas, set trip meter to 0. Drive. When you completely fill tank again divide the gallons it took to fill by the miles you drove since last filll up.

You are welcome. I would recommend taking a few drives and tanks of gas calculating it to get a good average.
