Looking for a video, post, tips on replacing a tensioner for a 2005 V6. It differs from the v8. Been here, YT, 4Rorg, and other places. Can't seem to find any posts on a tensioner assembly replacement for a 4th gen V6 (2005).

I've replaced bearings and pulleys, settled that the tensioner is where it is based on other forums.

I have no problem giving it a shot, but that wonderful thing of time that we all come up short on... Just trying to avoid a couple extra hours doing something dumb.

Maybe I'll be the first to throw one up!

I had this done by a mechanic on my 4 stroke Yamahas. Never had anything fail on the engine of my V6 2005 4 runner - except starters (3 times 150,000 miles). https://www.amazon.com/AISIN-BTF-50...hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584207577395177&psc=1

You should throw a video up. My buddy's 2003 Tacoma had the pully on this thing literally fall off. We couldn't find any good videos on replacing it. Of course he just wanted to buy the pully and not the whole assembly and I kept telling him that didn't look possible. So it sat for like 4 months in his driveway before he sold it as is. He had about 350k miles on it so it really wasn't a high priority...but in short I don't remember finding any videos about the tensioners....haha.

I have the tensioner, just looking for a play by play besides my black and white 1-picture Haines, or tips anyone has.

Yes you can buy the pulley alone. Just not OEM.

That said two questions, how many miles? Why not replace the pulley alone? Is your belt slipping?

Alot of info on Tacoma world. Same engine. Doing the entire tensioner is a real bitch. Several threads on it.

For some reason for that Tacoma we could only find the whole assembly, not just the pulley. The only stand alone pulley we found was the idler pulley.

Haha....that's awesome. It was right before I bought my 4Runner days and messing around on these forums. We never even though to look through these forums. We just search auto part suppliers and salvage yards and the whole assembly is what we could find. I'll have to send him that and have a good laugh about it.

Thanks. I will look at those.

Replaced the bearing and then the pulley. Belts last about 2mo til they start chirping then squealing again. Tells me tensioner.
