Take it out of the bottle, don't just mash the whole thing in the hole like a turd in the shower.

You'd probably need more than one quart.

Unless there is a recall or TSB, our T4R will never see a stealership again.
I despise bulk oil & the techs are useless @ our place of purchase.
    I can use a jack & a wrench...
Now I need to find which oil filter to use!
Maybe another poll to see what people do.

They did mine at 5k and scheduled me out at four months later since I only average 8k a year.

We asked about the terms due to a trip @ 1,500 miles.
Told the dealer that she puts 6k miles a year.
He sounded like a robot. "2 yrs; 20k"
I asked about non bulk oil & he had no idea.
I don't get gas if the tanker is there filling it.
    I am not mechanically slow.
I have experience & have done research.
I am not ruining my own engine out of ignorance!

Oil brand doesn't really matter. Lots of data to back this up. I get whatever synthetic is on sale and a Toyota filter.

It is the bulk oil I have a problem with.
How often are the tanks cleaned... never!
If you start with dirty oil...
From refinery to lube bay it is getting dirty. I just want sealed jugs!

Napa oil appears to have all the minimum API specs required for our 4Runner. There are several forums that mention Napa Full Syn is similar to Valvoline Full Syn oil. That oil is more than adequate to put in your 4Runner. The price of the of the Napa Full Syn oil is good too. I have always used Mobil1 thus I lean toward it. You all have a Walmart on Maui, what is the price of the Mobil1? Mainland is around $23 for a 5 qt jub and $9 for the 1 qt jugs.

    Edit:
Never mind you are on Lanai, thus no WM, sorry.

I did the first oil change at 3K miles and I checked all the drive train fluids. had to change the rear diff gear oil.. was gray and had black specks in it .. engine oil and filter looked very good but the jap oil was a conventional oil in 2016.. I had sludge under the fill cap.. used Mobil 0-20wt syn .. no sludge and did the oil changes at 7500 miles.. I now have 25K on the runner and no problems.. the drive train fluids all look good.. rear diff gear oil still looking like new..

89 octane is no problem ..I use 87 .. I did use higher octane when new.. MPG did not change .. so 87 works good..

Interesting. I bet the dealer wouldn't change the rear diff so soon and probably tell you it's normal.

What made you think to check the rear diff @ such a low mileage?
    Just curious.
Is there a dipstick or is it loosen until you see or feel oil?
Ours is 3 months old... 1,500 miles before my wife went on vacation to Tennessee...
Do I need to service it when it gets back?
I was waiting for fall or 5k miles.
    Thanks in advance!

Advise... follow the owners manual. 10,000 miles between changes. Toyota engineers design, build, and drive their vehicles. 300,000 miles is not unusual for a 4Runner.

Nobody,... nobody has ever claimed to have worn out an engine due to following the owners manual recommendations. It would be much more likely to wear something out, from driving off-road!
    Don't do that!

How do you think the oil gets into "sealed jugs"? Is there a virgin milking an oil cow with the teat directly in a 5q jug?

    Related: all 0w-20 is synthetic

I change mine when the light comes on, which is 5k. I personally enjoy changing it and it's like $40 3 times a year so I think I'll be okay and I doubt Exxon is buying a new tanker on my dime...

The light (or maintenance warning) comes on at 5,000 miles to remind you to rotate the tires.

Engine oil service is at 10,000 miles per the manual.

Lots of blackstone oil analyses that back up the 10,000 mile oil change interval as being perfectly fine.

An oil change at 5,000 miles (in most cases) is unnecessary.

But do as you wish. It's your truck.

There is no dipstick. You fill the diff until oil comes out of the fill hole. It would be wise to check the level of your diffs otherwise just change it at 30K like the manual says.

Stock filter here. But did pick up several TRD filters during the 40th anniversary sale.

It gets into the jugs at the refinery (or close) I would imagine.
It doesn't go into a semi, then into a tank @ the dealership or lube shop. Those are the places I know never get cleaned & have contaminates in them...
I worked in a car wash/ lube bay in high school. Lube bay was always filthy!
