Rented a runner today

Found out Toyota (some dealers) have a rent to buy program .I rented it for the day, bring it back and no charge of I buy in 30 days .otherwise it's around 50 bucks .a full day behind the wheel is better than any test drive I ever got! Hooked up the trailer and loaded it to find it will be fine..today was 2 k and perhaps an occasional 3k but had no issues .owning trucks for alot of years admittingly aways had trouble backing in the trailer with steering corection .the runner short wheel base is awesome, backed that sucker all the way into back yard and behind the shed.
Anyway not sure why some whine about has mileage. Took an 80 mile highway ride and using the probably not accurate dash readout would pull 20 at 70 .Tried a.sretch at 65 and got 22. Took back roads home all open 45 to 55 and got 24!
All windows down are flipping awesome! 82 today and air was just right not to hit me in the face or have a high noise level..kinda cool .got near home and drove another hour foot heavy and still got 17-18 .Works for me. Depending if I get a good deal will grab one tomorrow .was going to wait on the 20s but the straight forward no nonsense setup.is a draw all by itself, I dont want all the saftey sence, common sense is cheap and will keep me on the toes! The loaner had premium sound is another reason not to wait on a 20 .it sucks and new head unit will be in the near future!
All in all renting is a great way to test drive!

So my dealer tried to screw me, I've know this guy about 20 years now. Drove 30 miles north and scored at another dealer. Orp and had the wheels on it that I wanted.. time to save pennies for mods!

 

Sounds like they figured they had a slam dunk sale over a $50 rental fee (psychological) and a 20 year relationship. Par for the course for dealerships. All scum. My next vehicle will be used and from carvana.

Must be a heck of an adventure never looking back! All those poor saps you must have ran off the road by not looking (this was sarcasm) I know what ya meant. One awesome thing about the runner is lack of tech! It's like buying a collector that's 10 years old but it's new.

Definitely a strategy used by dealers to get you to buy. It's beneficial to the customer though.......because you get an extended test drive and really get to make sure the vehicle works for you on the streets that you drive daily. You can always just say no if it didn't work out.

Carvana charges you an extra thousand just to pay for their fancy (and pointless) car vending machines.

 

You can it just costs a lot more money....

Yet still thousands cheaper than dealers around here. I comparison shopped last night.

The major upside. They bring the car to you for free along with the paperwork. No sleazy salesman (best one at a dealership) called a finance manager.

What state are you in?

 

New Mexico. I’ve done a ton of pricing around and carvana is always priced reasonably. There are no slam dunk deals, but both parties win.

 

What trim are you looking for?

 

Not looking to buy now, but in the near future I’ll need a commuter car. They’re consistently fairly priced. Sure, I can go to a dealer and haggle the same price eventually, but why? My time is super valuable and not dealing with the scum of the earth is high on my priority list.

For example. Honda Accord ex-l. 2017 model. 23k carvana, 30k local. Those cars don’t have a mile long options list. Pick a color and wheel locks are about it.

There’s nothing magical about buying a car that warrants a dealer. In fact, I could use less people in the chain lying to me.

Yeah, but new cars can only be bought through dealers.

Obviously a used car doesn't have to be, but with the 4Runner being a vehicle that has one of the best resale values out there, you can get a new one for almost as much as you would spend on a used one that's 1 year old.

And not all dealers are bad. Some will let you complete the deal online. A few emails back and forth, go in and test drive your vehicle, sign the remaining papers, and you're out of there in about an hour.

 

You definitely don't want to know.

More like leasing My ex was on a 3 year deal and the girl before her was also! after 3 years I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy (marry her) so I return her to the dealer and got a newer model with less mileage

 

Seems to me a better strategy to just let a potential customer take a car home for a day? I've had dealers let me take a vehicle for an afternoon on many occasions. I don't put 100 miles on it. Just drive it home. Park it in the drive way. Look it over. Stare at it. Drive it around the block a few times and park it in the driveway again. Let the neighbors come take a look. Then drive around a little more and take it back.

I get it for a few hours. And I'm not out $50.

 

trade in for a newer/used model with less miles did you get to choose your options???

 

Even better if they let you do that. Not all places will.

Which brings up the question, how many miles can you put on a car before it's not considered a "new" car anymore?

I've wondered that too. I've test driven a "new" vehicle with 100 miles on it and it just feels weird.

But a dozen test drives over 6 months on the lot and it's not surprising.
