New to 4Runners and 3" lifts

With a 3" lift 2018 SR5 stock front bumper what size tires can I run?
285 70 17 or larger?

I don't know shit about tires or wheels...can't figure it out for the life of me. Though I am starting to think that if you run anything but stock tires or wheels it's going to rub some how..and you're going to have to get rid of your mud flaps, cut your bumper, and/or get a heat gun and push the wheel well up.

 

This has been talked about at length, It seems that some people can run without rubbing and some rub depending on the car and the way that everything is aligned. I will say that a 275 75 17 is CLOSE. However, doing the front wheel well mod seems to take care of it. I am getting a little adventurous and considering going 285 75 17.... that is right about at a 33. I dont want to do the body mount chop so we will see. I will try to take some pics lock to lock on ours this evening with a 3" lift and the 275 75 17 KO2's we have so you can see how close it is. Keep in mind, I had these tires on the stock suspension as well without rubbing.

 

What wheel are you running?

 

All depends on your wheel and tire choice.

285s fit without cutting just remove front mud flaps if you can get the right UCAs and someone willing to max the caster.

Unfortunately for me I need to show paperwork my caster is within spec to get RECON here so I was not able to get enough caster and needed the BMC. Small one but still needed.

Most people with bigger tires are rubbing because of an aftermarket wheel offset, wheel backspacing, wheel spacer, or alignment issue.

If you retain the stock wheel specs and you push your caster up to roughly 4 degrees, you can run a 285 with small mods like the front of the fender liner being pushed forward slightly along with some minor fender trimming. Some people don't even have to trim anything.

The amount of lift doesn't really matter that much on day to day street driving, but if you see heavy articulation offroad, you will want a lift to clear the wheel well.

Just for reference, I'm running 285's on stock trail wheels with a 1.6" lift in the front, caster set to 3.8 and the fender liner mod. No rubbing whatsoever.

I have 3" leveling kit with 3" in the front and 2 1/2" in the back and run Open Country ATII 285/75/17's. I had a bit of a rub prior to cutting the front bumper area. BUT, it looks better with it cut anyway and now no rubs, just tugs.

 

I don't know if I would call a 3" a "leveling king" LOL.

But looks good.

All good! Yes, Revtek has a great option for them. I believe it is the 432 model number but not positive.

 

Hows the ride I can't imagine 3" spacers.

 

Quite honestly, it's awesome. I expected it to be very stiff but it is very smooth. It's similar to what the dealerships install a lot of times.

 

I've had 1" on my Tundra and it was back breaking. I couldn't imagine squeezing another 2" in there.
