Every other weekend when I can, I usually work a few weekends a month.

I care about proper driving dynamics, and so should you. Toyota did it for a reason and their engineers are way smarter than me. Leveling is an "aesthetic" thing, not a functional thing. I also have brighter headlights installed, and squatting would put them in everybody's eyes. I actually aimed the headlights with a loaded truck to make sure I won't blind people when I take trips on dark 2-lane highways.

LOL! I must admit, though, that I have been leaving the traction boards on the roof rack a lot. I don't drive it to work, though. It's mostly because I'm too lazy to take them off and put them in the garage.

I agree with this as well! If I ever lift, I would maintain some rake for the same reasons. I would also consider Air bags if I ever noticed any "Bro lean" when towing or loaded with camping gear.

Don't you sit an inch higher in the front than stock?

My issue is with the stock amount of rake and not rake in general. I personally think Toyota went with too much rake on the stock 5th gen (except the Pros). I suspect they did it to improve aerodynamics and hence, improve mpgs. The 5th gens seem to have way more stock rake than other gens. For the record, I'm still retaining a small amount of factory rake.

But I disagree that leveling is just an aesthetic. It allows your front tire more travel clearance from the wheel well. The back tire already has enough clearance for most uses.

Headlights aren't very hard to adjust.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said here. Not sure about the reason for the factory rake but I had assumed it was for dynamic loading, the way that most truck suspension is set up from the factory to avoid squatting. Squatting will unload your front end, reducing control and influence from your front (steering) tires.

Good point about squatting unloading the front end. You're right.

I think I might have been unclear in my first post. When I said I don't like lift that retains the factory rake, what I meant was a lift of say 2" in front and 2" in the back, for example. That just looks a little weird to me because it accentuates the huge amount of factory rake our vehicles come with stock. Again, just my opinion.

Haha - love it... Specially love the folks (sorry if it's you) that pack the emergency meal kits in the back. Then again any day now I may end up in the wilderness of Alaska with no services for 400 miles. Some people watch to much reality TV. :anonymous:

This was a good laugh! I was guilty of leaving the rtt on for extended periods when I had a Tacoma. I’m sure I’ll do the same with the 4Runner cuz it’ll be that much higher off the ground. I think I look like a pretty cool dude cruising the mall with it.

HA! I actually have a backpack in back with some mountain House meals in it. It's nice to just fire up the stove and eat wherever I am without driving out. But for emergency just carry taco Bell hot sauce like that dude that survived days in the winter did this last year :D

When/if I get a rtt it will most likely be left on full time as my current living situation will require it. That really is the only reason I don't have one yet.

And that's perfectly fine if it suits you. We'll just keep enjoying ourselves "ribbing" some of you nobody should take it personally. Some day you'll get the last laugh when I'm stranded during an eclipse with no gas, during a hurricane, in the middle of a blizzard, buried in 3 feet of desert sand and with no cell phone...Naw but honestly Mine's never done more than go down a (bumpy) dirt road...:ohsnap: I don't "four wheel." Just pull/launch the occasional Wave Runner.

People who own a 4R and don't appreciate what they have. I had a friend who drove one and actually said she didn't care for it but it was her only car. I was sick to my stomach with envy and anger. I would of taken it off her ungrateful hands if I had the $$.

Big wheels, little tires and snorkel make me

I didn't know all the terms for this. The kids around here call it "Bulldogging". Only seen it done to pick ups so far. I think I'd get sick if I saw a T4R desecrated in such a manner.

Yep...I don't mind mine *getting* dirty (two teenage boys and three dogs...it happens), but it can't stay that way. My dad was an Air Force crew chief and passed his maintenance OCD on to me.
