New shocks?

i have a buddy that's gonna sell his 4th gen soon (2008). But his shocks are hammered and he wants something new and wants to spend as little as possible.

Is there much price difference between the OEM's and bottom end bilstein?

Should I just tell him to get some OEM hitachis? I don't know much about suspension.

EDIT: he's gonna keep the truck for another year, so we want to do this right.

What exactly about rock auto are you suggesting? Which shocks should he get?

 

I should rephrase that. He doesn't want the cheapest he can get. He Wants something as good as the OEM shocks. But if bottom end bilsteins were + $50 for the set (compared to OEM), he's just go that route.

 

The OEM is about the cheapest built shock you can get. Junk in my opinion. Bottom end Bilsteins would be better.

 

I got Monroes from Amazon over a year ago, and they have been great. Under $100 each.

 

If he's selling it soon what's he care?

I posted rockauto thinking you wanted cheap and they have a lot of cheap options.

 

I was just looking at the Monroe's on RockAuto. Do they ride just like the OEM shocks?

 

Where would you guys recommend getting a set of bilstein 4100 Coilovers + rear shocks?

 

Post a WTB add on here for some stock shocks.

I bet people would be willing to let them go for very cheap. There is pretty much no market for them at all so people just end up throwing them away.

No need to buy Bilsteins for something that's just going to be sold soon.

 

Did you use your stock coils?

@4runningMan I did Gabriels in the back at the same time as the fronts.

 

We've decided we're gonna go with the KYB Excel-g coilovers in the front. They're like $125 on RockAuto.

We're gonna do the KYB shocks in the back. But now a new question--- what should we do for rear springs?? KYB doesn't do rear springs.

I'm seeing lots of reports of the KYB coilovers lifting the front 1-2" over stock height. We absolutely don't want to end up nose high, and I doubt we will. But we want to be sure.

I was gonna get MOOG's but I'm reading reviews saying they sag after a year. Any recommendations for rear OEM replacement springs?

 

Hey, thanks for the offer. But we want to replace the springs, both front and back. It's a 2008 with 100k miles.

The KYB seem like a good option for the front.
