This has been touched on and debated, including by myself. I chose the 2019 because toyota safety sense is a joke for prople that don’t know how to drive and need easier access to text and drive. Apple play is nice but not nice enough to deal with TSS. This all driver preference, my opinions are mine, I don’t expect anyone to share them. I really do think I will miss the army green though. https://www.4runners.com/threads/thoughts-on-2020-4runner.9341/#post-89264

I was in the same boat three weeks ago when I decided I was going with another 4-Runner. Knowing how well executed safety systems work, have all of the available features in my wife's 2018 Lexus, I decided I didn't need them. I consider myself a very aware/engaged driver and although the features are neat I find them more of a nuisance. The visibility in the 4-Runner is exceptional compared to my wife's Lexus.

I am not debating the effectiveness of the systems in keeping others safe, they just don't mesh with my driving style. Additionally, a key consideration for me going with the 4-Runner was the tried and true, just enough technology...an example of less is more. I ended up going with a '19 Limited and love it.

I bought a 2019 TRD Pro after deciding the TSS wasn't worth the wait for me, Entune isn't great but it works and I don't need the distraction of Apple Carplay. Also Voodoo Blue, but if I had gotten a 2020, it would have been white.

I had Carplay/Android auto on my last vehicle and never used it.

I just used Bluetooth all the time and listened to my music that way.

Maybe I am not techy enough but I dont see what the big deal with carplay/andriod auto is.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking also , I work with computers all day , and the thought of having sensors all over the friggen car doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling , especially if someone damages the sensors , also the interest rates will be lower for the 2019 lol so there you go .

20 gets 8" screen. Whats the biggest indash one can cram into a 19? and not the ugly one that sticks out and blocks the vents

I just came from a 2017 Tundra, and all I remember was all the guys complaining or having issues with TSS once they put it on the 2018 model. So I was happy to buy a 2019 4Runner that didnt have it.

I doubt there will be too many other changes....My guess, updated instrument cluster (to accommodate the TSS crap), Apple Car play, maybe LED lights....probably not much else.

I had a rental 2019 Audi Q7 yesterday, with all that lane safety stuff - HUGELY annoying, made the steering feel very disconnected/vague, etc. Glad I opted for the 2019 4Runner before all the nanny bits get added next year!

I love the Tacoma, don't get me wrong. It's nice being able to haul lumber (I do some wood art) and throw snowboards in the back but I don't use the bed as much as I initially thought and after driving it around, it's a little clunky and uncomfortable. If there are more than 2 passengers, it's a little tight in there so I'd like more room. Initially, I thought it would all be fine but after a couple of road trips, a 4Runner and and honestly maybe even the 2020 RAV4 TRD seem more appealing. Although I'd miss the off road capabilities if I went with the RAV...

    Makes sense.

I had a 19 Taco and traded it in for the 4runner because mine had tons of vibration problems. Got tired of taking it in with no fix.

Yea I've noticed the vibration on the highway but I thought it was just in my head. After reading about a couple of people experiencing the same thing, I'm going to look into more.

Anyone know if safety sense can be shut off? Ford allows you to disable most of it or at least limit the amount of feedback

OP, sounds like you answered your own question -- you're not for the bells and whistles. Save some money, and get the '19 now or after the '20 comes out. I'm waiting for the '20 because I love Android Auto and its integration with the vehicle. Not having to use/touch my phone while driving and using voice commands in AA has spoiled me.

I forgot to ask.....Is there any word on where it’ll be built? Japan/Mexico? I looked but all I was able to find were rumors it’ll be in Mexico when the 3.5L is “potentially” introduced.

If Mexico, definitely buying now. We’ve purchased several Subaru’s that were built in Japan and they are a totally different animal than their states produced kin.

Safety sense is nice, but once you’ve had adaptive cruise control, you’ll never want to go back to a car without it. CarPlay and Apple navigation is well integrated. Definitely wait for 2020.
