How hard did you drive your T4R......

During the 1000 mile break-In period?

 

Not very goosed it a little, towed a lightly loaded landscaping trailer. Once it hit 1000 however tow weights went up!

 

I drive like a old fut.

 

Yea like the manual states. Not long periods at same speed; limit burn outs & F1 starts.

 

I was wondering if this would be said.....

 

Bought mine in Arizona and had to drive it home to Southern California.

It was at highway speeds for a while.

I even used cruise control at one point

I keep waiting for it to blow up any minute, but it just keeps going

One of the reasons I ask this question is that my brother had a new 2005 Toyota Celica with the 1zz-fe engine 4 banger and he did drive it hard right off the lot. Then at about 17K it needed rings it was covered under warranty but even the mechanic told him he burnt the rings during break in. I know we have come a long way since then but I am sure it could still be possible to do that in the 4.0....

 

I would think if you drive things reasonably in the first place and you drive this thing reasonably off the lot, you'll be fine.

I would avoid towing, stomping on the gas, high rpms and those sorts of common sense things.

Other than that, I'm fine with just driving it like you normally would off the lot.........and I did!

 

I had my 2015 Tacoma from new until 30k and never once even caught a wheel. Took good care of the clutch in that 6spd

 

I drive like an old man on Sunday.

 

There's something to them telling you that with any motorized thing in my opinion. "They" know what their talking about or they wouldn't tell you to do it...Again just my .02 I'm no mechanic.

I drove it like a rare jewel. It got babied for sure.

 

I feel much more comfortable driving hard in a vehicle that sits higher off the ground than I did in my old sedan. Used to get the cops called on me all the time, but now only people in big rigs and monster trucks get a free show when I drive by them, and I'm pretty sure they like what they see.

 

Drove it straight home along the interstate, 255 door to door, cruise control most of the way. About to cross 70k and nothing has fallen off yet.

 

I had well over 1000 miles on mine before I even knew about the break-in period. Used the same dealer, same salesman twice in a 15 month period on virtually identical 4runners and this topic never came up. Drove the interstate 70 miles each way on each purchase, cruising at 77 for the most part, hitting the passing gear when called for. My mileage is pretty consistent around 19.4 mixed. In good ole SC we're pretty much driving around here in defensive mode, gotta stay on your P's n Q's the whole time. Even if you can avoid the animals driving the other vehicles there's always the ones darting across the highway from the wilderness.

 

I took mine around the White Rim in Canyonlands with ~500 miles on it.

 

Wife drove it like qualifying for a rally race....
