My primary purpose for buying the 4Runner was towing my 91 Miata, an SR5 would have done that just fine. I bought the Pro because I wanted it.
I've been on the forums for 3 weeks and am already annoyed of people shitting on other's choices to buy the car they want instead of what they think is the "better deal". I would have gotten the off road if I wanted to modify it myself, but after years of owning sports cars that I've heavily modified, its nice to have upgraded parts that are covered by a factory warranty. That in itself is a better deal for me. Even in stock form, its an extremely capable vehicle.

This was the OP's original question: "I'm wondering if I will be facing a tradeoff in terms of how the vehicle performs during on-road driving." In all likelihood, the answer is "no." It was really a "yes" or "no" question, mostly dependent on whether the OP will subjectively enjoy the Pro's on-road ride or the KDSS ride better. Seems like an hour on streets, a highway, and a twisty-turny could answer that for the OP. Whether or not some people buy Rolexes or TRS Pros because it makes them feel good about themselves-- or just makes them feel upbeat when they walk out of their house in the morning and see that sitting in their driveway-- is beside the point of the OP's question. The fact that some people disparage other people who buy unique/expensive clothes, watches, houses, trucks, believing that those other people are somehow revealing a personality trait, which the hater's less-expensive watch or truck proves he's free of ... well, make of that old argument what you will.

Whatever you do, don't get a limited... They are absolute mall crawlers and can't be used off of pavement!

I've had to use my wife's Odyssey to get it out of high water a few times, Kroger needs to fix their parking lot drainage. I even spilled my coffee twice!

Oh, so now it's the assholes who are the problem in society? Really, what is this world coming too?

    (Damnit, typos!)

The implication would seem to be that there's a proliferation of assholes. As for the question "are assholes a problem for society?', the answer would seem to be self-evident. Just having some fun. Don't take it personally.

Whatever you do never buy the poverty spec SR5.

What SR5 owners think they look like...

Actually buy the SR5 over the limited. The limited is strictly a grocery getter.

I bought the non-premium TRD Off-Road because I despise leatherette and sunroofs. Just thought I would toss that out there because I'm an a-hole :)

Have you seen how fast ice cream melts these days? If you want to see real driving, look for LE drivers who know how to deliver the goods.

Your hatred for LEs cracks me up and I'd put money on you never having never even been in one off road.

Fact is the LE with a set of trail 17s is very capable vehicle.... But you speak from experience and I don't so

I tried to get fitted with Cooper ATs on my LE and the tire shop wouldn't put them on! Said they weren't spec for grocery trucks. I had to sneak in the wheels off the truck and lie to get me some ATs on the LE. (broke a few eggs coming home from the store, however, so maybe they were right!)

No I know yours was a joke lol.

The fact is all of these models are very similar with the exception of a few different suspension/cosmetic notes.

It's true the rear bumper is one of the biggest hangups on the LE... Pun intended :)

The wheels are literally one of the easiest fixes on any vehicle, I was able to swap mine straight across with a trail edition at no cost.

Aside from that every person in the 4wheeling 101/201 course I've taken was wranglers on 33s+ and I completed every obstacle they did except for a few on the blue trails of RCP... Which I'm confident the pros don't have the ground clearance for either.

Let's just all agree on one thing, get a 4R :)

I’ve taken all of the back and forth as good hearted joking. I’d be surprised if anyone actually cared what trim level someone else bought. The real hate goes toward the Heep owners, they are bad people.
