No official number on that yet, but the steel mounting brackets will make it plenty. Can run a RTT and people no problem. What do you plan on carrying?

No problem! Yes, the extruded rails are tapped so the hardware threads through the side rail and directly into the rails.

The only weight number Toyota seems to give are for the stock rack crossbars (not side rails) which are only rated to 132lbs. So the question really is what is the load rating of the 4Runner roof, but Toyota doesn't give us that data. Our rack will support a lot more than that, but it is up to your discretion. I ran a Freespirit rooftop tent, myself, and sleeping gear and bounced around offroad on our crossbars without any issues (300lbs+). I will be loading it up to run trails for a week or so on the way to Expo West in a couple of weeks.

    The same 4Runner everyone has
Looks like it's the same 8020 stuff that everyone uses. Not sure of the exact profile from the photos though. Also if it's plain black anodize, it'll fade in a year or less. Anodize dye doesn't really hang around in direct UV exposure.

I think direct tapping the aluminum isn't too troublesome unless you're moving bars around a lot, that's what risks thread degradation. 6061-T6 is fairly robust. Could try keenserts but depending on the profile, it may not have enough meat to oversize holes for them.

Yes, tapping into the aluminum won't be an issue and you are correct, anodized does not hold up well in the sun which is why we zinc-rich primer and powder coat ours. Your roof is going to be seeing lots of UV exposure.

how much height does it add from the roof to the top most part of the rack? I only have about 10" from the roof to the garage door opening so that I can still park it in the garage which is important due to Texas storms.

Any word on rear ladder compatibility? I plan on adding a ladder so that I can use the roof rack as a platform for taking pictures while road tripping.

The top of the rack is only 3.5" above the highest point of the roof.
The current plan is to make a ladder that is incorporates into a swing out on the rear bumper. I'm not sure about a stand alone ladder yet.

Looks like a decent setup but there’s 2 things I’m not really liking. The rear of the rack, it looks like it comes out far enough that it would interfere with hatch mounted ladders. The other thing is the side rails. They stick up quite a bit past the top of the crossbars, some people like having that basket type lip, I personally don’t. There are some RTT’s that have a totally flat base, those won’t fit this type of rack without risers, and once you add risers your taking away the racks ability to distribute the load across multiple bars.

Do you think y'all could come up with a mount to make the rhino rack aluminum folding ladder work.

We will be releasing a ladder in the near future. The rear fairing shouldn't interfere with other hatch ladders but in the case that it does, it could be removed. Plenty of structure with all of the crossbars.
Most RTTs, I'm aware of at least, have their own extruded aluminum rails so some type of raised mount is necessary to use the mounting hardware.

Thanks, I missed the top pictures somehow. Thanks for posting. I like your mounting system WAY better than my Prinsu. I am actually having some issues with my Prinsu damaging the roof rail on my 5th Gen. The small cylinders are dimpling the seam. I am trying to make my own fix for the issue but it is a little tricky. Front runner has a great spacer but they dont sell them individually so that is out. If your rack was out 8 months ago I would have REALLY looked at it! Good design. Good styling.

I shouldn’t have read this post. Now I’ve got a slight case of buyers remorse on my rack selection. Oh well... nice products. I’m sure something from Victory 4x4 will end up on my 4R.
