Wow there is no way I would accept that answer. If it’s a defective windshield they should replace it. I had Safelite replace one for a OEM one due to the rain sensor not working on the aftermarket on a Range Rover I had.

Recall that they're double jointed. There are two pivot points, not one. Took me 3 years to figure that out in my last vehicle. Always wished it was higher... then I finally figured out how to get it higher.

Not suggesting you're wrong here. If it's mounted lower that would be annoying.

When I had my tacoma the rear view mirror is really low , well I found a guy on the forums who makes a mount that raises it about two inches and is a great investment, could look into those ? Mine sold with the taco wished I’d taken it off ..

I purchased the Tacoma riser. We will see if it works. The glass shop is apparently having phone issues . I'm not giving up but at least the mirror will be out if the way until this is resolved.

First rock chip. Wasn't even that hard of a hit. At least my insurance company repairs chips for free. Used safelight, came to my door.

Where do you live? Most states do not allow a deductible for auto glass replacements.

Went to my insurance agency this morning. Glass company should call me soon. Replacement will be free of charge and they come to the house.

They just about all do now. Even in the winter they heat the sealant right in their truck.

I replaced my 2018 4Runner windshield at 6 weeks old. Used Safelite thru insurance, State Farm OEM & didn’t pay a dime. Needed another 4 months later & decided to pay out of pocket. Safelite quoted me $850 for OEM, $ 489 for aftermarket. I called AAA auto glass $260 aftermarket Pilkington installed.

Just had this one fixed by Safelite. Of course it happens while driving to IN for a training event. Never fails but that repair seems good

I had mine replaced four times when I was living in Ohio by Safelite. Granted 4th gen, not 5th. Safelite does a great job.

However, Cleveland/Akron stretch of 77 there's so many pieces of broken pavement and dump trucks full of gravel, I felt like something was always hitting the windshield. Meanwhile, I've been in Charlotte for five years and never once had to replace it. (Of course I'll get a crack tomorrow, smh...)

I think northern climates are more at risk due to potholes and pavement debris, shoulder collection of refuse, rock salt, damage from winter. Not to mention colder temperatures.

I noticed the issue right after purchase and took it in
Dealer inspected and got the work approved

Have you called the dealer? I’d get it in their system pretty soon so they can get the ball rolling on a replacement
I wonder now if this will become more common.. possibly a bad batch of windshields:notsure:
Granted we’re only two out of a ton.. but, just how many people would catch it?

So, what was the overall price you guys have found for OEM glass? Any issues with leaking after installation?

depends on who did the job. some glass installers are great so some are not careful and will damage the roof liner and damage the paint .. the rust then the leaks .

OEM glass you can call dealership on your specific runner for costs..OEM glass is soft and does pit easy on these. also very thin probably to reduce weight ..

Just got my first chip this past weekend. Very tiny right now, though I've got a zero deductible on comprehensive claims so whenever I have to get it fixed or replaced I won't be out a penny.

Hey guys new to the forum here. My windshield just cracked (nickel size) and its only a month old. Probably going to replace it with OEM glad through Safelite. After I do so do I have to go back to the dealer to get my sensors or anything like that reset? I’ve never done this before with this being my first “new car” and want to make sure I’m doing everything right. Thanks!

I doubt you will have to go to dealership with the windshield replacing.
now if this was a BMW well that is with many sensors and is a very specific part required.

if any error codes come on or the radio/sat does not work then you should check out the vehicle before and after the window guy does the job..

post how safelite did the job.. any problems ..
