Hi All , I am in the process of starting to look for options for a roof rack on my 4Runner . Found something i like by Gobi and after doing some checking of customer reviews and product quality it seems like a decent option . I still want to look around quite a bit more and see what else is out there . Was wondering if anyone has purchased and has a Gobi on their vehicle and what they think . These seem to be solidly built but with that they also seem to be quite heavy and have a high price tag to match . I don't mind spending the extra money on something that is built the right way and will last . I also came across some info about the company and some of their business practices which is a little concerning when it comes to smaller companies . Just looking for some info from anyone who has either a Gobi or another brand that they are satisfied with and what then spent . Thanks

Gobi makes a nice product but their production times are outrageous. I have a Gobi ladder and it took 9 months to get it from them. Lots of false promises from them on when they would ship it. If I’m not mistaken they take a non refundable deposit so 9 months later you can’t cancel the order without losing your deposit.

Baja racks (no drilling) front runner (requires drilling) SSO (not sure on drilling) ARB flat or touring rack or rack (no drilling) are all good options.

I spent about $220 for the ARB fit kit and about $600 for the ARb touring rack.

One thing to consider, would you use a basket style rack or a flat rack most? That will narrow down your options.

I also have been looking at SSO for a rack. I really like the lines & attention to detail. Does anyone know if the make a rack for trucks with a sunroof (Like the Gobi pictured)? Lastly, does the wind blocker eventually rub into the paint on the gobi? It has to cause some harm...

If you stick a clear strip of vinyl on your roof under the wind deflector you will prevent the rubbing that can lead to paint loss.

If it’s anything like the Yakima wind deflectors they should supply some clear stick on. Tabs that prevent the wind deflector from rubbing into the paint.

Another vote for LFD Offroads rack. No drill and now comes in aluminum.

Love my GOBI. Worth the price. The wait sucks. But I have to say, it's worth that too. Just don't get your hopes up when they say it'll be 14 weeks. Be happy if you see it in 9-12 months.

Damn! They are nice racks but Jesus, the wait. I couldn’t do it, not with other options out there.

I honestly think mine came in 6 months. They told me 8 weeks. I'm sure that has gotten longer now. Maybe not 9 months but definitely get yourself a snickers.

Just bought an LFD full/aluminum. It was between them and SSO: it really came down to lead time. LFD will be able to get me into a rack quicker and quicker means rtt camping. Both companies answered my questions quickly and they are priced nearly the same. It seems like most of the players mentioned above put out a good to great product.

So after looking into things and checking out a bunch of companies , Gobi is quoting a 16 week lead time to get the rack sent to me . After reading reviews and some info from this site that does not sound likely . The one thing that is interesting to me from Gobi is that they include the ladder with the rack in their price and the shipping is also included . Shipping from the West to the East coast would be significant on a product that heavy so that is definitely a plus . I really like their product but that lead time is a killer . So confused on what to do .

Bottom line from my research. Great product, horrible customer service/production time. I just ordered mine, do not need it until fall/winter. If it's late then that's on me, I know what to expect. However, I pulled the trigger beacuse I love the profile and the usability.

Unpopular opinion: skip the ladder and get one of these, and get any rack you like.

It's four times as useful as a ladder for a quarter of the price and stows away when you're not using it. You can also use it on anyone else's car for a reach.

Unless you're specifically going for the RV look. In that case, carry on.
