I just picked up my first rig project and I’m not sure where to begin I’ve been looking for some recommendations but it’s hard to see what people have done with theirs. I was thinking abut putting on a 3 inch body lift for now just to do the easier trails like at Gorman, pilot rock and Cleghorn. What would you guys recommend? Thanks in advance.

Welcome! My opinion don’t waste your money on a body lift. It should be fairly capable as is put some good tires on it and go have fun. If you travel alone bring a shovel, hi lift, come along, and some straps in case you get stuck. Enjoy!

I just picked up an 86 it has a bastard pack in the rear to level it and then has a 1" body lift. It clears 33x12.50 no problem. It is a dog with the 33s and stock 4.10 gearing. Just keep in mind the loss of power with big tires and no re gearing.

I'd begin with an oil change, tuneup, new belts n hoses. Just general maintenance really. A body lift is unnecessary. For trails like Cleghorn, Pilot Rock, and Gorman, a good set of 31" A/Ts should suffice. Good luck and post some pics of your progress!
