9CEA11BE-4534-4F57-895E-86DFF52BDF53.jpg I decided to go BFG KO2 285/70R17. What a smooth and quiet ride I had. Big difference coming from BFG KM like WOW! And my mileage was up by 2 miles.
I just have a minor fender rubbing on full turn and on reverse but I’ll figure it out how to do it. I’ll install the 1” cornfed spacer at Rear soon. 6305F933-D916-4424-9282-BC73CFCC4D7E.jpg

I measured both from center caps to bottom of the fender, both on 21”. Will adding 1” spacer in Front and 2” rear lift would solve the minor rubbing in the fender?

Now that I changed my wheels and tires from 255/75R17 to 285/70R17, do I need to get an alignment?

I would before you start trimming anything. One of the best purchases you can make with a lifted 4wd vehicle is a lifetime alignment from a reputable place.

Have them push your caster up to as close to 4 degrees as you can get. It will track better on the highway and you'll be less likely to rub on the mudflaps. You may rub a bit on your front fender liner, but the fender liner is easy to push forward.

Glad you're liking your 285's

Did push back front fender liner and made a new hole for the bolts and nuts and took the mud guard (ouch!) and rubbing issue is gone. Made full turn lock both left and right in reverse. No rubbing at all. I’ll crank .5” more in my Fox Coilovers and will install 1” cornfed or 1.5” daystar rear spacer this week. Right now I have 21” from center hub both Front and Rear.

FYI for others - I just installed factory sourced TRD Pro rims on my 2016 SR5 along w/ some Cooper AT-3 275/70/R17's, and no rubbing in drive but do rub when turning in reverse (despite MOST of what I researched online telling me they would not rub), so yes, seems to be case by case basis at that size. I'll report back after effort at adjusting fender liner.

So it's rubbing on the front fender liner? Have you had it aligned? What is your caster set at?

This is correct. My local Toyota dealer sells pro's all day long and the only thing they do is swap out the tires for 275 bfg's.

here is a picture. (This is stock suspension on a pro)

When you say "stock backspacing" which stock wheels are capable of this? I have the sr5 wheels.

    Thanks!

If you look closely at the pictures of the pro i posted with 275's you will notice they removed the front mud flaps.

Any of these will work with 285's? I really do not want to run wheel spacers (I don't know if i would need to)....some of the shops around here wont touch your truck and you are left with removing them.

    Thanks!

Yes, any of these will work with 285's.

One caveat to this is that both the SR5 wheels and the Pro wheels are 7" wide. Most 285's recommend a minimum 7.5" wheel. Plenty of people still run 285's on a 7" wide wheel with zero problems. I have never known a tire shop that has refused to put 285's on a wheel because it was 7" and not 7.5".

You don't need wheel spacers. In fact, you are more likely to rub with wheel spacers.

I have 285's on Off-road (Trail) wheels and a 1.6" lift in the front. Caster at 4* and the fender liner on mine is pushed forward slightly. I still have the front mud flaps. No rubbing whatsoever.

Really 1.6" in front? I am seriously thinking of installing the toytec 1.6" springs in front (with a 1/4 inch spacer ~2.1 inch lift up front combined) setting my bilsteins back to zero. and running the toytec 1" spring in the rear. this combo after the spring rates all iron out will have a difference of 8% higher spring rate ratio to rear with the new springs. This probably will be my best bet for balance. Cant complain after this lol.

are you running front eibachs only?

Yes, Eibach adjustable shocks set at 1.6" in front with the stock coil. Stock shocks and coils in the rear.

I plan to get some Dobinson 1.5" coils for the front so I can set the Eibach's to 0".

Why not get a Dobinson 2" spring, set your Bilsteins to 0" and forget the spacer?

I’m tossing 275s on my SR5, on Pro wheels right now. I went back and forth for a while before finally making a decision.

I want 285s but do not want to lose power mpg etc. Was going to do 275 but I like a wide tire not for height. Since 265 is same width as 275 I went stock size. Toytec coils coming next week to level, air bags to tow and I'm done.. probably not but :notsure:

I want matching springs. I have used eibach in the past so i trust their springs. EMU springs? Even though we did not discuss these i heard that they sag after a while (never had an eibach sag) Dobinsons? thats pretty new to me. I will have to look into it...Im looking for a 2/1 setup as i do not want to deal with upper control arms.

FYI I read another thread where you went with destination AT/s GREAT TIRE! I had them on my Tacoma before i traded it in last month. I want a 2/1 lift as it will be the exact same height as my Tacoma was which was perfect

Here’s mine, stock suspension. Will not be stock tomorrow (6112/5160 going on in the morning). No rubbing at all with 275s on the BFGs, I cranked full left and right, forwards and reverse.

Prior to the total lift, I was at 37” ground to fender on the passenger side, 36.5” on the driver side. The fronts were assembled to balance out the driver’s side lean. After, I ended up at 38.25” both sides. The tires added about a 1/2”. I also have the third row. I took measurements at stock, then with the new tires, then finally with the lift.

Follow up, I got an alignment today after letting the lift settle a little. I had driver's side rub at full lock right turn in reverse. Passenger side was fine, but really close. I did the fender liner mod and all is well.
