Let's make a camping discussion thread. Throw your pics, setups, destinations, and anything else camping in here.

I have been progressively trying to consolidate my setup now that I am mostly solo camping. My setup is almost down to one box for everything so it's easy to just grab and go after filling up the cooler. To further decrease the load I am looking to get a smaller stove setup. The Coleman fold and go in this link is my front runner right now but still searching.

Also picked up a Big Agnes Frying Pan SL2 tent for cheap during an REI 30% sale. Couldn't pass up that deal and now I have a compact tent for the motorcycle also.

Wally, I am looking to do similar, move from RV to out of the Runner. Simplify. I have read that those new butane powered stoves are the ish. I do not have a link though.

I have read up on those also. They are nice and there are some that can handle butane and propane. The problem with me is I am already so setup for propane, I have bottles of it, as in many bottles. But they are worth a look and the butane canisters are fairly compact. Let us know if you pull the trigger on one and post a review if you feel like it. An yes simplify is the goal.

Figured after this recent road trip I would show the 4Runner homeless option. Not a lot of people know about it.

An here is a great pic from the trip.
    IMG_20190310_194323171.jpg

I have attached a screen to the back window, it's not refined so no pic just yet. Also have a curtain for the back window. This system works great for stealth camping

I like my Kamp-Rite tent cot I picked up a couple of years ago. it's incredibly bulky but comfortable to sleep in and sets up pretty much anywhere. I also got one of those REI roll top aluminum tables and that thing is awesome.

Somewhere in Canada on a trip to Alaska in 2015. Mine on left, my brother's from Cabela's on the right.

For sleeping bags. I can’t say enough about Big Agnes. I have the Lost arranger 15 and a dual person 30* bag. What I really like about them is the bag has a sleeve for the air pad so it doesn’t slide off as you move about at night.

Only one complaint really. They coated the main tent layer with heavy waterproofing, which means that if you sleep with all the windows shut you'll wake up to a condensation shower. If it's looking rainy at all I leave all the interior windows open under the rain fly. that helps some but I usually take a towel with me to wipe it down in the morning if I have to sleep with it closed up.

Yeah, there's 0 airflow from inside to out when the thing is all closed up. The rainfly has little vents on the head/foot ends of the cot but they don't help much.

I have slept in it in a howling wind/rain storm in Moab and on that Alaska trip it rained pretty heavily a few nights and I stayed mostly dry on the inside aside from the breath moisture. Overall I've still been happy with it.

Well if I put the rain fly on I leave all the windows and the door on the first layer open to the screens. There's other reasons I'll put the rain fly on other than rain, like if it's windy to prevent a ton of dust from blowing into it. In that case I'll leave the rain fly door open and hold it up with some binder clips. If it's a little breezy and the door is open I haven't had the condensation issue. It's only really bad if you have it closed up. Regular tents do the same thing if you have a couple of people in them, condensation will collect on the underside of the rain fly.

Turns out I have 0 pictures of the thing with the rain fly on. I'll have to remember to take one next time I use it.

Edit: here's a pic of it with the rain fly on that shows the little vents on the ends.

It's also stupid roomy inside for a cot. I'm 6'1" and I can fully stretch out without my head and feet touching the ends. enough room for my pillow on one end and to put my shoes on the other. I can also sit up inside it in the center. The Kamp-Rite cot has those poles that hold up the middle, one reason I got it over the Cabela's version my brother has.

We sleep inside the rig on a platform with a full size bed minus the fridge cutout so our feet have to touch, 3" memory foam mattress, drawer system/camp kitchen setup, tilting fridge slide. You can also see our blackoutt curtains, black on the outside, white on the inside. Buddy's GX is a Roost hardshell and he's working on a drawer system now too.

I’ve had condesnsation issues with all tents I’ve owned. Just a side effect of them. Even with vents. To avoid it you really need a nice clear and steady flow of air to keep the temperature the same inside the tent as outside.

Think of it like a cold beer or soda on a warm day.
