You can perma remove the little light bar with Carista. It's the reason I bought Carista two days after I got my truck.

Is carista worth it? Looked at it the other day but wasn’t sure if it performed as well as it said. Had an ultra gauge on my old Tacoma and wouldn’t mind a similar diagnostic.

I bought it, used the free week trial, set all the settings I wanted (auto off headlights, interior lights, windows, key fob, eco bar removed, auto-locking doors, etc).

After getting it all set the way I wanted, I really have no use for it again. But yeah, it worked just fine for that stuff.

You just download the app, plug the Carista into the port, and make the changes via the app. That's it. Pretty simple. I like that the eco bar is removed. The headlights now shut off when I turn off the truck, the doors don't auto lock when I put it in gear (no more automatic anything on the locks). Overall, it was worth $20 to me to change all that stuff. Lots of changes you can make. There's a thread here somewhere that lists all the changes.

Yep Carista is worth the twenty bucks if your dealer/servicer won't change stuff in Techstream for you. I turned off my seatbelt chimes and activated the window roll-downs via key fob, very handy for cooling the car down in summer. Be careful in the rain/snow though!

@4runningMan did you turn off the green eco light or the throttle meter in the little display? I know you can turn the eco light off using the display control, no OBD2 connection required at all.

I turned off the green eco light via the steering wheel controls. And turned off the eco bar with Carista.

Ah yes, the seatbelt chime! That might be the best one of the Carista options. Although I think I disliked the auto door locks most of all.

the ECO light has been on 90% of the time I have been driving this past weekend. I went to the dealer Saturday and the salesman said I need to give it a bit of time to calibrate. I told him I was very worries since its been guzzling gas and he assured me it would get better. I am averaging 15.4 over the weekend, a bit up from last weeks 14.7...

Have you reset your average MPG since last time? If not, you are including all of the data in the average, not just the MPG from your latest driving.

Also, check at the pump. I reset my trip meter every time I fill up, and divide that by the number of gallons going into the tank. Although I've found the number to be pretty close to the truck's calculations.

Yes-I filled on Saturday and reset the meter. I am averaging now 15.3-15.6 MPG which is up from the initial tank, but still Terrible.........

Increasing your highway cruising speed from 55mph to 75mph can raise fuel consumptionas much as 20%
    20% of 15mpg = 3. 15+3=18mpg
These 4runners are heavy and not very aero friendly. Try to slow a bit even to 65 and see it that helps

True but problem is have you ever tried doing 55 these days on a highway? At least where I live everybody is up your a$$ and can't pass you quick enough. Yeah that really doesn't matter but another thing at least to me it takes FOREVER to get somewhere at 55(ish.) I set cruise on 70 when I can on the highway that's a good speed for me. Definitely agree about the gas savings though. Another thing that supposedly makes a big difference is open windows when on the highway because of the drag on the vehicle. Had a Nissan Maxima years ago and the manual actually stated it gets better mileage and recommended the AC on at highway speeds as opposed to open windows.

Ive been trying to drive better and tested out different speeds and at 60 it seems I can get about 22-23mpg and at 70 about 19-20. Your right its hard to not go below 70 because everyone and their mom is passing you or up your ass. Weird thing is when im in a hurry seems everyone is driving slow lol

2019 TRD ORP that has almost 500 miles on it. Everything is bone stock aside from a leveling kit. We average 17.5 mpg in 50% city/50% hwy @70mph. Not super thrilled with the mileage but it's... ok.

Yeah I suppose they'll again be stuck with all the trucks on the lots. Just hope after it hits gas remembers to drop back down again...Well that is 1.00 more than it was before the crisis....We all have short memories.....

I honestly believe the only way another gas crisis will happen is if we vote stupid again and allow socialism to take over, again...see green new deal.

2019 Off road premium. 1100 miles, 275/75/17 on TRD pro wheels. 5100’s set at .85. Highway/city average mpg for me yesterday on a 50 mile trip was 22.9 mpg so nearly 23 mpg. Cruising at 70 mph with some stop and go due to a few heavy traffic spot. At nearly 23 mpg and I don’t consider it even broken in yet....can’t complain there.

Hand calculated? Is that converted to your size tires? If so that is really good

No not hand calculated. Just going off of what the trip computer said. How far out of wack is the trip computer. Enough to drop it to the 15mpg the others are reporting?
