When I got my V8, I got the oil changes included. In the package i could have full synthetic but the Toyota mechanic said its not good for the older vehicles. I found the guy I sold my V6 03' 4Runner , now with 190K and with the full synth. no issues at all. So my ? is the dealer right? or can I use full synth. oil.? Anyone out there with any technical info.

No technical data from me you can google that if you can find any at all. The "great oil debate" started somewhere right after Adam and Eve! So you got a used V8 with free changes I assume? I'd probably put in what the dealership recommends, the "weight" oil Toyota recommends you use is probably more important but again just my .02
I also change mine before the oil change indicator or the mfg specs and it's just what I'm going to do I don't care what the "pro's" say.

Whatever you decide on, just change it regularly and you won’t have a problem. Oil is oil nowadays.

    Weather Tech mats! lol
My former next door neighbor has a 2003 SR5 V6 4WD with over 750K on the odometer.
He changes the oil himself and it is always Mobil1.

If it was Penzoil it would still be running also. Change it regularly, new filter and use any popular brand.

Thanks for the feedback, I used to do it myself on the first 4runner. Since this one came with oil/filter change I'm always there. someone earlier said" use what Toyota recommend", as much as I wanted the full synthetic, guess Dealer wins this one. WOW 750K miles

Good luck actually what I meant about going with the dealer was the proper weight or "viscosity." I've heard that about full synthetic in older vehicles and how they supposedly can start leaking that wasn't there before. Most investigating on the internet these days will reveal that isn't necessarily true, of course most sites claiming that are oil manufacturers. Keep it changed regularly with whatever they put in and you'll be fine. Probably to many people sweat the details about what to use and their die hard fans of a particular brand. Practically all oil sold today is very good quality and shouldn't do you wrong.

I put synthetic in both the 04 and 05 4runner keeps the engines cool in the summer months when the AC is blowing and can go some distance before oil changes.

If you want a mix have a cocktail, only synthetic for the engine!
