Tag lights switched?

Hello, I'm a new member and tried to search this but couldn't find an answer. If this is the wrong location to post please let me know.

I was swapping out my lights for LEDs and when I took off the tag lights I found the L/R on the opposite sides. (L on right side, R on left side). The magic google machine seems to have many different opinions so I figured I would ask those who probably know better.

Does it matter or is this something I should bring up with the dealer?

    Thanks!

welcome. And the lights themselves are the same on both sides and universal in my experiences. I've swapped mine for LEDs also.

Weird. I've read some opinions that with it this way it pushes the light more towards the outside of the tag to accommodate for the longer European tags. Since mine is a J vin maybe that's the case and it's intentionally switched. I was watching the tutorial on Yota and they noted that theirs were switched also? Weird. I have my 25k service coming up so I wasn't sure if it was something I should have them look at or not.

^In Japan "L" and "R" are used interchangeably. Your 4Runner came off the same assembly line as "Rando Cluzas".

That's strange because when I swapped out the puddle lights, those housings also have an L/R but on the correct side. This makes no sense!

Did you purchase your vehicle new?

If used, someone may have swapped the from L to R and vice versa.
For the same reason you pointed out, my new T4R came with a new license plate bulbs where the light would shine to the outside of the license plate area.
A lot of of us swapped them from left to right and right to left so the light would be thrown towards the center of the license plate.

Thanks for the info. I did purchase my vehicle used. From the research I've done it does seem like it's whether the lights throw towards the outside of the plate or towards the plate itself. When I look at it though it seems opposite of what you're saying. With the mounts switched it seems to throw the light to the outside as opposed to on the plate itself. I'm not sure it completely matters since I've upgraded the lights to stage 2 LEDs but I think it just bugs my ocd that it's not "the way it's supposed to be".

Copy. More than likely they were switched by the previous owner.
