I picked up a set of new running boards for my 4runner as shown my wife has shorter legs than I do.

I was about to pu them on when she asked "won't they hit the sand when driving on the beach?"

Good question? Anyone have an answer?

Probably only if you dig in the tires down to the rocker rails. What running boards did you buy?

I spent a few days at South Padre Island last week and had no issues with my bar steps. Just don’t sink.

I have had a 3rd Gen, a 4th Gen and 2 5th gens with OEM running boards. All used extensively on the Outer Banks of NC from VA/NC line to Ocracoke NC in deep soft sand. No problem. Now that said you do have to know how to drive in such sand, running boards or not.

OEM running boards from someone who didn't like them and they bought some aftermarket ones for theirs.

I've been driving in sand for awhile, that's not a problem, she just felt they hung low enough to be an issue.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, you would have bury yourself in sand all the way up to the axles to bottom out on running boards at which point you would have bigger problems.
