I don't see how people are missing this. Its simple. But half of this forum is retarded so it shouldn't be a surprise

Is this your first 5000 miles? Maybe the reminder was reset by someone else between new and now?

I’m pretty sure the 5000 mile oil maint reminder is hardcoded to show up in the center instrument information display. I haven’t found any way to alter its behavior. But it’s just a simple mileage counter, and also secret proof Toyota engineers wanted you to change the oil at 5k no matter what (it is specific in saying that your oil is due, not a general preventative maint reminder).

Anyway, you can reset this mileage counter back to zero at any point, the alert doesn’t have to be showing. If you reset it now, you wont see it for another 5k miles.

Or if you want to make sure it works, you can leave it be and let it show up eventually in the next few thousand miles.

I paid my dealer to drain my engine oil after 1,500 miles. Egad it was very dark -almost black. It was first catch out the drain plug into a clear wide mouth plastic bottle with cap. I let it sit on shelf in garage for a few months then poured it into a collection jug for recycle-the sediment in the bottom was shocking.
I also saved the 1,500 mile filter in a zip lock bag.
Inspection showed a few shinny flecks in the filter folds.
Toyota has an agenda for their recommended oil managment-it does not seem to include engine longevity. But to be fair, us runner owners are different and certainly keep our runners a long time.

I did the same thing with my last two toyotas. Drain at around 1000 miles, find some metal flakes on the filter. After that first change, no more metal flecks. On topic, I reset my oil reminder light after that first change and went a full 5000 miles.

I have my wife and my drivers license to remind me. I actually look pretty damn good for my age!
I also did the same at 1,500 miles. I intend to keep my 2024 4Runner until both our wheels fall off.

It worked, thank you adamant365. Did not realized it is the same procedure as my FJ.
