I don’t worry about any of that. Dings, scratches and rock chips are all going to happen no matter what you do. These are mass produced vehicles not rare collector cars. Use em and abuse them.

I get where you're coming from, but I'm really OCD with this stuff, and I'm getting a full PPF the day I pick up the car, so yes, I'd like to avoid doordings

Yes, this is why I asked about slider extenders. In the 6th gen 4Runner, the doors protrude further than the sliders, so if someone opens their door into your car, it'll hit the door bulge first :(

You're not wrong. I just grew up having it hammered into me that you take care of your things. I remember as a kid my dad would be out washing and waxing his truck and my mom's car every Saturday.

Once it gets to a certain age I don't really care anymore. My Grand Cherokee was 15 years old when I got rid of it, and the last few years with it was great, it was just a beater. I parked it downtown on the street, take it to the beach, did not care about it at all. I loved that freedom. Now that I think about it, the 4Runner is pretty much at that age. The only difference is by this age the Jeep was probably worth two grand on a good day, my 4Runners probably worth another 10 over that. It feels weird owning an almost 13-year-vehicle that's still worth five figures.

I think you're out of luck on that unless you replace them with some really wide running boards.

As Turd Ferguson said, sometimes door dings are unavoidable and part of car ownership.

I remember years back I saw a magnetic body molding that you could put on to prevent door dings, maybe they still sell something like that and you can use that when you know you're going to be parking in crowded parking lots. It'll look terrible when it's parked, but at least it might help you avoid the dings.

I typically just park way out in no man's land, it annoys the heck out of my girlfriend but mine is a 2013 with no door dings, her 2020 already has a few.
